I don't know...see i like it, but i think my Dad will have trouble getting used to it..........but i think it looks cooler! And BTW, the pictures link comes to a screen that asks for a password, whats the password?

i would say it looks good but i don't like microsoft so now it's just ok

. and to the people wanting to change back to IE6, who needs IE when you can get firefox?

Firefox runs slow on my PC....i dont know why tho....Doom 3 plays above normal on my PC! IE loads up in a sec.........Besides IE 7 looks just like
Firefox anyway.

Vista is exactly as I've heard, a Windows with OS X like graphics. Thing is that Vista is going to kill all older computers when they release it. You need a very up-to-date computer, something like mine (P4 2.26GHz, 256MB ram, ATI Radion 9000) isn't.

While I'm sure Vista is a nice OS... Is there anything new about it? Really all I've seen, read and heard is that it uses a lot of ideas from OS X. Oh and the fact that Microsoft made a statement to the liking of "People don't want tab browsing".

I'm not a fan of Microsoft, I'm hoping that most games to come out later will be GL and not DirectX. That way I can use a Mac.

Well, I'm impressed with a few little things I've noticed. The new start menu Programs setup and the way that even the directory textbox seems to be object oriented. That and MSPaint saves in PNG instead of BMP as the default. ^^

Also, I'm running it at decent speed on a 32MB video card. Plus, it has a "Classic View" mode, like in XP, which is the same in graphics requirements as 2000.

Plus, my boss ran it on a 1.8GHz box, and 512 MB is the recommended minimum by Microsoft. You could get away with 256, maybe. As for hard drive space, it is 6.61GB. (Awfully close to 6.66GB, but not quite, people.)

As with other Windows Versions, IE is integrated into the OS. That goes without saying.

I have to wonder what Vienna will be like, though...But that might not be out until 2009-2011. It should have a more mature version of WinFS.

Windows Vista is considered Windows NT 6.0.

Still Windows, still basically a cosmetic change. Jeez it took Microsoft THIS long to get all the features that Mozilla and Linux have had for YEARS! Besides, even though I've got a 160 gig HD, I don't see any sense in spending about 10 GIGS of disk space to install the OPERATING SYSTEM! I mean come ON! XP SP2 with all current patches sucks up about 4.5 gigs by itself on a fresh install.

This is yet another overly shiny and colorful program excreted from Redmond. And you know what? EVERYONE'S going to buy it, just because it's new and from Microsoft!

Up until December the primary Windows OS I was using was 2000 Workstation, and it did just fine! And even after I switched to XP, I still just have Service Pack 1a installed! NO SP2! I have all the ActiveX stuff enabled, but I use Firefox all the time! And I have had NO adware WHAT SO EVER! IE7 probably still has the same security problems, and still uses the same rendering engine, an dstill has 0 compatibility with open standards. They're going to use IE7 to force new Microsoft "standards" (read: proprietary formats) at us.

My friend has Vista installed on his laptop (his dad works for <s>the evil empire</s> MS), and I'm really not impressed. He has replaced a lot of files on it to make it look like XP (but the version info tells all), and I can't tell any difference with running it at all.

Windows 2000 was NT 5.0
Windows XP is NT 5.1
Windows Vista is probably NT 5.2 or 5.5 at the newest.

It's still going to get malware and stuff like that. Unless they scrap ActiveX and completely re-write half the system from scratch, it's still going to suffer the same problems as its predecessors.

Do yourselves a favor and just download the Longhorn Conversion Kit, and there you go. Free Vista. Or scrap Windows altogether and download SUSE and never need Ad-Aware again.

Sorry about the rant/long post, I just wanted to finally say what I think about Vista.

I'll just let you all know this though. My Linux instructor has Vista install, I know irony. According to him Microsoft is going to release one version of Vista and the key you put in will unlock what software or features are installed. So really if you go after Vista you can see about getting "Ultimate" by getting a different key code.

Well I applaude Microsoft for making a standard release. How long is it going to be before their system is cracked by hackers? I predict a month maybe 6 weeks.

I found out how to uninstall IE 7 easily on XP! Ahh, good ol IE 6. Vista looks cool, but why not get an X86 version of OS X instead?
