that can't be right. the gbc port has been used in 4 systems, why would they change it for this stupid gameboy micro? there's nobody who would go out and buy a cable for this just to find out i can't play with my friend with an SP because his port's not the right kind.

Well they scrapped the standard headphone and charger ports for the SP, so I'd chalk this up to another ploy to get people to buy new hardware. No, replacement hardware. They're trying to revive the system with stupid gimmicks. What I think they should do is put the GBA line in the past and move on.

the gba ext port is actually fairly large. it goes back in about half an inch and is about 1/4" thick. it makes sense that in such a small system they went with a thinner slot--and probably shallower too.

I like how the face plates are screen protectors. that's really thinking of us there

I use it on the gba a lot, but never noticed that. Maybe they'll do what they did when the gbo was around with the gbp and include a dangle to convert the little one to the big one.

I would have thought they would have gone for wireless link on the GBM and forced us to buy adaptors for our OLD hardware, rather than spend extra money on our pretty new stuff. (it motivates people to buy new)

1. The port design was started on the GBP not the GBC, and except for the tab, it's identical to the GBA.

2. Liksang is already showing the GBM-GBA adapter...do some research people...

I think Nintendo is awesome. I have not bought a console since the N64 so that probably impairs my judgement. I would really like to see Nintendo come out on top with its next console. I would like to see it dominate the portable market like it did with the original GameBoy against more powerful competing consoles.

However, I think that Nintendo looks like it is dying. No one in the world wants to play re-released games on a re-released console. They are beating a dead cow that died months ago. Why try to market two portable consoles at once, that seems counter productive to me, especially when the DS can play more games than the GBM can. Also no one wants to be forced into buying a game for their portable console to unlock secrets on their home console, they may call that creative but everyone else thinks it is annoying.

If Nintendo's next generation console is not amazing, really amazing, then Nintendo will likely go out of the hardware business. And if SEGA actually returns to the hardware market, like they have hinted, then the competition will be even tougher because I doubt that they will return simply to get crushed again. The GBM is neat and had it come out three years ago then I am sure that everyone would own one but now that is not the case. If the DS is not Nintendos main next generation portable console then the next one had better be huge. (On a side note if they market another portable to compete with the DS then everyone who bought one will not be happy.) If anything it may be better if Nintendo waited to release a new portable right before the PSP2 comes out because if they release a GBA/SP/GBM successor after Christmas everyone will have a PSP and will not want to buy a GBwhatever.

Just to summarize "I really like Nintendo but no one, not even me, wants to play re-released games on a re-released console."

I think that is longer than all of my posts combined.

Nicely done. I was nerved by the first sentence, but you really showed some well thought out reasoning there. Then again, you also summarized just a lot of what's been said...

But I like two things you noted:
1. The GBM being sold at the same time as the DS is counter-productive. My thought is simple have a DS game that fires up the GBA game and lets you play the multiplayer of them via the DS-wifi.

2. Nintendo needs to focus on the DS. It could be an amazing product if they'd just push companies to make amazing games for them. New games. Hell, even they could. But they need to do that, not make new hardware.

Luc, Nintendo is focusing on the DS. Too much, methinks. This holiday season there's a mad rush, like always. Microsoft bring out the Xbox 360, with Perfect Dark Zero and Project Gotham 3 among other titles at launch. Sony has tons of third parties helping it, so there's at least one game you'll like by them.

What does Nintendo have? Animal Crossing DS, Mario Kart DS, Mario and Luigi: Parners in Time, New Super Mario Bros.. all of those are must-have DS titles. But they've already established the DS kicks ass with titles like Advance Wars DS, Kirby Canvas Curse, Meteos, Nintendogs (I personally don't like it, but it sold a quarter million already.), Pac N Roll, Pac-Pix and SUper Mario 64 DS.

Nintendo's Gamecube titles? Mario Party 7, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and SUper Mario Strikers. There's probably one or two titles I'm forgetting, but my point still stands.

On the GBM subject, I'll probably buy one. The DSes awkward face buttons (B/A/Y/X. Xbox, Dreamcast and probably PS2 use A/B/X/Y- in other words, Nintendo has it backwards [Since the one on the bottom is the main button]) make sit kidna hard to play GBA games on it.

The screen is bright, and will work fine, despite it's size. Now I'm sure most of us have played at least one GBA ROM in the emulator's default size. If it wasn't that size, it would be pixelated and ugly. Now the game was perfectly readable and easy to follow, because that's the size it's made for. The GBA/SP magnified the image.

And the Famicom face plate. Now that looks cool.

You can never, NEVER, make too many GOOD games. Now I'm never going to say that every DS game is good. They need new stories. They need to start things on the DS taking advantage of good plot and characters, not just graphics and the touch screen.

And they need (as it's been said a hundred times before) NEW games. I'm not saying they should stop making Mario and Zelda and whatnot games. Aparently there are people who are into those. But they need to stop reamking the classics. I'd suggest making a new 2D, non-rpg Mario game. Much like the SMB series. Not like Yoshi's Island (ATouch and Go proved that was a bad idea, believe me, it's the only cart I didn't mind taking apart).

And no conn, Nintendop isn't solely focusing on the DS as a handheld or the GBM wouldn't be coming out in september. That would be what I was referring to.

I'd also like to see them use the GBA-option pack for the DS. They've hinted at it. Built the case to acomidate them. But They haven't made any. It's like a myth.
