I really am quite surprised by the ammount of genuinily christain people in the states, in the UK barely anyone is religious, in my year i know of one christian, and hes an ok guy, likes science and believes in evolution. The majority of the relgious people i know are all muslim, thats in no way a bad thing, but even they dont take it that seriously either.
To not completely bash organised religion, it does promote some good points for everyone, ie treat people fairly, everyone is equal (although it took them a few thousand years to find that bit
But then you go the bad stuff, crusades, jihads, persecution, as game16 says getting in the way of advancement and generally infringing on everyday society *cough*intelligent design*cough*
Just to repeat my point of view
religion = ok
overbearing religious preachers and beliveing too much = not ok

The Big Bang is still a mystery just because of its nature. Being stuck here on Earth means that we humans can only learn so much about space and objects at extreme distances, but it doesn't mean that a scientific answer is nonexistent.
One current theory regarding the creation of universe involves String Theory and 11-dimensional space. On the 11th dimension, a universe appears as an infinitely long and wide, undulating membrane, existing in some 'space' or 'area' with other membranes. According to the math from which the theory originates (math which I could not possibly understand at this point) a collision between the undulations of two mebranes could cause the formation of a third membrane, and thus a new universe.
As for evolution, why do you say it isn't random? Evolution does not follow a set path, but it is dictated by changes in the environment, which in turn are caused by changes on a much larger scale.
I don't think chaos theory is something people can 'believe in'. It is just a way to describe systems which appear chaotic.

#1:Because humans shot them all
Humans introduced them into their natural habit and ate all the do-do's food, which previously had no competion so had no need for a defense mechanism.
but thats just me being pedantic
