OK, take your cd drive, and hold the bottom with one hand, and hold the top with another. Now pull apart with your hands and you should notice that you can move the drive apart and together. Now inspect the drive, and look for little black plastic tabs. these tabs are what hold the thing together. if you just snip those tabs with some cutting pliers or something, it will come apart, thus making the drive slimmer.
EDIT: On another note, If i hook up all the pins on the volatage regulator of the gamecube and the gamecube mobo together it will still work right?
