at about 300megs, which in retrospect is terrible quality, say only 300 people download it. thats 300*300 = 90,000meg which is what 90gb. But what if 3000 people download it. assuming it streams people will watch it more than once! And I though you only had 330gb a month?

You got your math a bit wrong there: a gigabyte is 1024 kilobyes, not 1000.
Everything thing is in a 2 to the power of in the computer world.
Don't quote me on this, but I think it's because transistors (the ones inside the CPU) have two modes, on and off.

I know that its 1024 MEGABYTES BYTES NOT KILOBYTES per a terabyte. I was estimating seeing as the difference woul be about 5gb at max. No where near that much probably closer to 3. dont try and out smart me whne convertingy Bits to Bytes and stuff.

it's not the transistors, technically, but really just the bits in the memory unit. on and off....the transistors are used in the logic circuits

I havent bothered to go through all that. But if someone shows me how to start a torrent, then I would be glad to seed for 2 weeks or so (tues night and weds night and sun night excluded) I have a solid 60+ kb/s up speed and would love to help you guys out. I am also intrested in watching it. If anyone wants to let me know, drop me a pm or im me on aim. Good luck with your movie ben.

First someone would need to get their hands on the copy of the movie that is being distributed, and then create a .torrent file for it and stick it on a tracker. Only one person should do this so that we get the maximum potential out of the torrent.

Then you would need to get the .torrent file from the first person and a copy of the movie (which you could get by simply downloading it through bittorrent, or getting another identical copy of the movie through some other means.)

Then get a bittorrent client like utorrent or bittornado. I wouldn't suggest using the original bittorrent program as it's actually a bit inefficient. Make sure that the proper ports are forwarded on your router if you have one (utorrent has a nice utility to let you know if this is done properly.)

Open the .torrent file with the torrent client and point it at the movie (or if you're just downloading it for the first time, where you want the movie to go) and hit "Okay."

If you actually have the movie and have it set up properly your bittorrent client should take a few seconds to verify that the file that you have is correct, and will begin seeding.

I would stay away from using Shareaza for a bittorrent client as it is somewhat counterintuitive and has a nasty habit of not seeding the way it should

For bit torrent newbs, the program I use is called Azureus. It'll work just dandy for downloading Ben's movie. You can find the program here:

If you don't know how to configure a router to open your ports it's fairly simple on most routers. Usually just type in 192.168.1.1 in your URL bar and enter the admin/admin password. If you haven't actually done any security stuff your login should be "administrator" and your password should be "admin".

On my particular router (linksys wrt45g) I click on the "gaming and applications" tab and select port forwarding and enable the 6881-6889 ports. ON my old router is was found under "advanced setup" so just look around and you'll find something.

We're STILL trying to figure out where and how to have the live premiere in Wisconsin, but in all likelyhood it'll be April 1st 2006.

So this is the web premiere date as well. For all hosts, I want to mail the discs containing the Quicktime web versions no later than March 22nd. Allowing up to a week for them to arrive US first class mail, you'd then have 3 days to get it uploaded. Keep in mind we're still planning on 2 versions, a 1 gig and a 540 meg. If you think you'll need more time for the actual uploading (as it's MUCH slower, usually, than downloading) let me know.

Let me know if this sounds reasonable. Also, if you'd like to become a web host, please EMAIL ME (using normal, real email) at benheck@charter.net, subject of "PW Hosting". Include the following:

Name and Mailing Address
Name of site you'll host it on
You monthly available bandwidth
Which version (Large, Small or both) you can host

Even if you've emailed me already about it, email again so I can remember and get a list started.

What I'll do is then arrange the "Downloads Links Page" as such the sites with higher bandwidth will be listed first and get more of the hits. To kind of even things out. Your actual bandwidth won't be listed, but by careful arranging we can randomize which ones people will click. Or perhaps, if you know the physical location of your server, we could arrange that way.

Note: Persons hosting the 1 gig version will get it on a DVD (along with the 540 version), so please be aware you'll need such a drive to access it. The 540 only version will be on CD.

I could host it but at 1 gig I could only afford you 100 maybe 200 downloads.
