Harry Potter in IMAX

Im going with my school on the 25th to see harry potter at an IMAX tehatre. I think its gonna be pretty awesome, however, my friend said that the movie wouldnt have been filmed in Imax, and they are just going to put it on an imax screen. Would they do this? I dont want to go really if its going to be pixelated.

I think your friend may be right. But why would they say in IMAX when it's just on an IMAX screen?...

I found a site that says

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire will be digitally re-mastered into IMAX's format through the company's revolutionary IMAX DMRÂ® (Digital Re-mastering) technology and released to the worldwide IMAX theatre network.

I guess its like semi IMAX, because they didnt film it with an IMAX Camera.
Will it look as good as normal IMAX movies? Ive never seen one, so I cant really compare.

I think it was filmed with standard movie cameras, but they probably increased the size to IMAX specs and processed the video to clean it up a bit.

See if you can sit towards the back of your group.

I went once to see the 3D Ghosts of the Abyss and made the misstake of sitting really close to the screen, so it looked like there was two of everything realy close to me. I must have takenb a dozen Advil that day!

Isnt the whole point of Imax to have most of your vision, be the screen, so sitting in the back would lessen that effect. Its not going to be 3d, so I dont think it really matters if I sit up front.

I've seen some movies in Imax at the boston science museum I sat in the back and it was really good I think its better to sit in the back because you can see more of the screen. We were watching a movie where a helicopter or plane was flying and it felt so reall you actually feel like your in the movie kind of. Harry Potter probably wont be the same but it still will be better than in a regualuar theatre. Plus with the triwizard tournament it should be even better.

We have 2 large IMAX theaters in Vancouver, so I usually see about 2 every year(with school mostly). If the screen is a dome shape(yes, they exist), sit in the middle of the theater, otherwise, the back is best.

the imax i went to in the fort worth science theatre was domed and was about everest i think, its been a while but wow was it cool

In the sixth grade I went on a field trip to Manhattan museum. It was domed, and I recognized a RGB light output, like they're testing it before the actual movie. It was domed, however very, very pixelated.

whats with the dome? Is it for 3d or something? You'd think it would look kind of strange if it was displayed in a dome.

It's called Omnimax and it's a panoramic screen and gives a more all incompasing effect, it's really sweet.

I used to live in Vancouver (Victoria actully, but all my relitives lived in Langly and Richmond

) and ive been to the Science World quite a few times and it's really great

Cool, another BC guy. Where do you live now?

The domed Omnimax(that's what I was trying to remember) theaters are awesome unless you have motion sickness. It's still really cool, because you almost feel like you're there in person.

it's always good to see something in an imax theater that wasn't narrated by a has-been Star Trek character.

however if I had to guess, they just stretched it and maybe added some more data to the all-digital scenes. In a perfect world, they would convert the all-digital scenes to 3d...but the world isn't even close to that perfect.

I was very young when I went to the omnimax in chicago...but if I recall, aside from Leonard Nimoy repeating over and over that omnimax was better than Imax, I don't think there was too much difference

unfortunately imax/omnimax never looked especially good to me. Too large of a screen and in most theaters I've seen you set quite close to it. Of course they look way better than a normal movie theater these days...since the digital revolution left 35mm behind the regular theaters have been slipping too. If I want a giant picture that looks like butt...wait, I can just sit in my living room for that...
