my goal for ours is 300 foot! weve hit about 200 now, its insane seeing a pop bottle flying 30 or 40 foot off the ground (or more) and several hundred feet distant

You may have to add to the hight of the machine to add to the distance.
Also dont know if any of you are big fans of Mail Call, or Moster Garage. But the big guy (a.k.a the admin for Trebuchet.com) appeared on both. He brought a quarter scale treb to the set of Mail Call, he then built a machine like Triton's for Moster Garage. Believe it or not you learn quite a lot from those two episodes.

cant really make the machine taller/bigger but i will be making improvements structurally and on the sling

Yeah, Black Six, Science O. rocks. Plus, I've got two more years after this one of Science O. goodness, which makes it even better. I'm mainly a builder, currently working on Tower, Storm the Castle, Robot Ramble, and Wright Stuff. Good stuff, I love Science Olympiad.
That's a very nice catapult there, Triton. As G-force said, you should hurl a computer monitor. It'd be like LOTR all over again with the huge boulders. How long have you been working on it?

weve been working on it around 6 or 7 weeks total, 1 hour a day 5 days a week, i doubt it could throw a pc monitor tho
we used a comb of arc and mig welders. i plan on taking some videos so dont worry!
