this is the exact link you need to get the sheets you would wanna use... High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS Plastic)

The thinckness is measured in metric, so if you arent fimalliar with that sysem, just convert to standard.

Let me know how you build your vac-table. Im in the process of making a "low power" one using the 12" x 12" sheets, and a 1.2 HP house vac... i hope it has enough power.

Those thicknesses are in centimeters, right? So .250 is 2.5mm?

You mean, convert it to anti-standard? (seriously, the US is one of 2 countries that doesn't use the metric system, I forget the other one)

Oh, of course, my question wasn't about my conversion. It's that I couldn't find anywhere on that site where it states that the numbers given are in centimeters. It just lists numbers. I guess they must be centimeters since they have thicknesses like up to 3.00 which definitely wouldn't be meters.

Actually, i was wrong about the HIPS shees being in MMs, i just called the company, and they told me that the sheets thickness are measured in inches...

Whoa, I'm glad you found out. I might order some from there soon. Can't the ABS they have be used for vacuum forming too? The HIPS is much cheaper than the ABS, but is it really the correct stuff to use?

foxx i am building my table like the studio creations one with no heat source on pod, except a little smaller

no heat source? buah? i have no idea how in the hell you are going to pull that off. Can u gimmie' a link? Traditional vacuforms need to have the plastic heated up so it can be sucked over a cast of what you want to form... For mine, im going to see if heat lamps (like at a buffet have to keep the food warm) will work. But im not going to build mine for at least 2 or 3 months.

and HIPS is THE plastic to use for basic vacuforming. check out http://www.tk560.com/vactable4.html for more info. This guy went all-out when it came to his vacuform! I plan on spending like 50 bux.

Don't bother with that design, there is a good one that you can make with an electric grill, some wood and a cookie sheet. Find it on doomportables.

i was thinking about that, but im not going to make a vac table that big. I plan on using 12" square sheets. Ive seen the vac table that uses a griddle as the heating element. Like i said before, im going to try and use heat lamps, if that doesnt work, ill switch over to the griddle idea. My main problem right now is the actual vac. I dont wanna buy a shop-vac, cause frankly, i have no room for one, or the money.
