why isnt my n64 working

i have plugged my n64 into my tv and power it lights up but nothing happens the screen doesnt even flicker..........i have tested both the jumper pak and the game in my working n64

Sounds like something's fried, I think...

If you put in the game, do you hear sound?

If you start your good n64 w/o a game, does it do the same as the bad one? The cart slot may have taken a lot of abuse...

Sorry I can't be any more help, I don't own an N64. Just a PSX.

without a game it make the little popping sound it usually makes when it flickrs. the same happens with a game all other parts are good they have all been tested

When you hook the PSU up, does it work.

that happened to mine. i think i fried it by using to much force on a screw above the heatsink. that sucks. i plugged in the PSU and Av cord and the light turned on but the screen does nothing. next time i'm leaving on as much of the original metal plating as i can and won't attempt to remove heatsink and try to avoid soldring on the board. i wore a static bracelet connected to my computer chasis and it still fried. those fry really easy. does anyone know if expansion packs fry easy or is it just the mobo?

i havent taken it out when i put the psu and av in the light comes on but nothing else happens

is it on the wrong channel or are the Audio and Video wires in the right spots or are they in loose

i have fried about 9 n64 boards, and they are sOOOO easy to kill, i killed one taking it outa the n64 case, and another just by soldering on new power wires... there like 5~10 dollars anyway, easily replaceable, just give up and go get a new board, use your fried one as a test one to practice soldering to, or take small componets off for use in other projects

what i'm doing is not hacking the board at all and just hacking power AV and controller plugs to make them fit in the case

my other one died when i dop hot solder over 7 contacts on the gpu and it till hasnt fried i just cant be bothereed to fix it

n64 are SO easy to fry, the next one i do i will work on with surgical skill and carefulness! i dont know when i will work on plrtables again but i will NOT give up! i am sick and tired of being dogged by failure at every turn! i have not succedded in ever making a portable, not that i lack skill. i just CANT keep the DAMN things from frying or whatever, every single thing i have taken out of its case i have probably killed, there are a few that might still work and that i dont know if work or not but that WILL NOT stop me form messing around with portables! i will have a big thread at a later point telling my plans for the future

i have killed just about every type of n64 board, all the way from the nus-01's to the nus-08's, the nus 01's were a lot harder to fry, and took a wider range of voltages... however the nus-08's and such have a single ram chip onboard instead of 2, so that cuts down on a little heat, but as for the above comment, are you gonna hack up the power input too, seems stilly to ever waste any space in ur portable..

Is there anyone who's fried a bunch of N64s(4<) and has a paypal account? I'd like to get the PIF chips from some NTSC N64s, so if someone was willing to send them I can pay something for them.

I don't know how you guys manage to fry your N64s though, I've mucked around inside a number of mine with no static protection, and I've not killed one yet :/

im pretty sure a lot of different models came in the grey cases, tho the nus-08's were mostly in the color and see through colored case, and jay, i have 3 dead n64 boards right here, and what on earth would you do with their pif chip?, jw cuase id like to know as much as possible about the individual chips on my n64 board
