Most/all of us here like old console games; that is a given, otherwise we wouldn't play them or portablize them; however we are in a decending minority. In my day, the current retro systems were the latest thing so that's what people played in their millions - now its thousands probably as the millions now play modern consoles. That is the point, most teenagers now don't play old games.

It's a bit like this site - look how reduced the active membership is now...

I just don't play new games for several reasons

They are expensive. For $50-$60 I can buy about 8 snes games.

As before mentioned, they are too easy. It took me a week to beat zelda phantom hourglass. it took me forever to beat the first zelda, and I am still trying to beat the adventures of link.

Lack of gameplay. Remeber Sonic? On the old sega systems? those games were great, full of great gameplay. The only newer sonic games that don't suck are the sonic rush games foir the DS. All the others suck IMO.

Go back and play THPS1, it's impossible.

I liked THPS4 better still though, you didn't have a time limit for the whole level, you had individual challenges that you could just restart. And IMO THPS1 was crap, I beat it pretty easily. Now THPS2... that's a different story.

Game developers have run out of good storylines and gameplay methods. Last great game I've bought was Mario and Luigi, superstar saga. One of the few new games that actually made me want to finish it.

I don't mind the new games, but there's less GREAT titles. The last big one was probably Halo 2. Most of the new games are rehashes, sequels, etc. There's a few awesome games out there probably, but it's a needle in a haystack thing. Plus a lot of the games are availible for PC. Why should I buy a 360/PS3 when I can get it for PC?

Maybe I'm just too cheap to buy a modern console.

Exactly, themadhacker - retro systems have the quality games and the innovation too. Get your pals to play old games and see what they think! Also, as you say, you can buy old games cheaply - very cheaply in fact. Yes also, the old games are harder too and certainly have more longevity. We all all convinced by these facts on this site, by definition; problem is getting teenagers these days to realise what they are missing with the "latest games" (which are re-hashes of old games anyway) and share our interest!!

I don't need to get my friends to play retro games. They already do. Every schoolday, during lunch, we go to one of our teacher's rooms and hook up our retro systems to her TV. We have brought in genesis, nes, saturn, n64, snes, and dreamcast.

I got my best friend hooked on retro systems. He owns a SNES now and does quite a bit of emulation as well.

not ALL teenagers want games with good graphics. I'm perfectly happy with my nes, snes, and genesis.

Exactly, all of you that saw me at MGC know I'm not exactly old..., but I spend most of my gaming time on older consoles

my first game system was an amiga 500 computer, the first system i got new was n64 so thats pretty much my childhood there! i own classic computers and game systems from the early 70s to present, over 40 systems, computers and handhelds! and n64 is still by far my favorite console, i just spent most of the day playing n64 and wii with my girfriend! (mariokart, smash brothers, pokemon stadium, cruisin world for n64 and re4 and twilight princess for wii)

there is the radica genesis on a chip, none for psone tho

I have more Saturn games than any other console I own. I had 24 individual US games last time I checked, along with a few imports and sampler discs. I also have two or three, erm... acquired games that I play on a... modified console... *cough*
