N00b to making portables, would like a SNESp by April '09

I've known of this site for a few months thanks to Life of Brian, and all the success of SNES portables has influenced me to try and make my own. I'm not looking for a pretty rendition, just a functional one.

I have three SNES controllers, an old GBA (for screen and speakers, if possible) and an SNES model no. SNS-101 (I read the back). It's a smaller SNES and it's perfect size that I'd like it to be, but if any of this a bad idea, inform me now. I know a little about voltages and amperes due to physics last year and I'm hoping that'll help.

In a nutshell I'd like to accomplish
-relocating the cartridge slot (so that I can insert carts like a Gameboy)
-have one controller fully funtional on the portable
-a battery pack (would D-Cells work? My family has lots of D-Cells)
-a screen (would the GBA screen work? And if it won't how much would a decent one cost?)
without having to mess around too much with the case, i.e. make a new one or remold half of it.

Price estimates, advice, and most any other kind of feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Speakers yes, screen, only if you get the TV card for the GBA and you'll have to leave it all intact.

In theory, you can use D-cells, but in practice, they're heavy as crap. Alkalines are fairly short-lived compared to all the other kinds out there. If you're intending on using the SNES case, I'd strongly recommend something smaller.

Also, using the SNES case and relocating the cart slot is very likely to require a LOT of cutting and patchwork. If you want it to look nice, you're going to be spending loads of time on it. Any case takes time to look nice, though.

gba screen it's self won't work, but if you get a gba tv tuner it will, you just have to keep the gba mobo

ben wrote a book about portables and the mini snes is one with step by step instructions, I reccomend the book.

as for battery, d cells are pretty big, look for something on batteryspace.com with high mah and the right voltage, also in the stickies

One question, what is the tv tuner card for the GBA?

Here's one on e-Bay. It's pretty bulky. I thought I saw one once that fit in the cart slot, but I can't find it now. Anyone else know what I'm talking about?

I think I do. Didn't you also have to take the back off though, and reroute the LCD onto the cart? Maybe I'm just thinking PSP here though, I don't know.

I think you're thinking of TV-Out, for which you have to buy an extra board. TV-in just requires a cart that lets you put in TV

Aha! Found it!

Here's a review of it. Honestly, I can't see why it'd be worth it to spend $50 for the converter when for $50, one ought to be able to find a PS1 screen.
