New forum section request?

I see no need for another console forum, but a PC forum as bacteria said would be alright. I would use it.

Yes, plug 'n' play are very basic, however they are diverse. Lots of people here are not confident about hacking more complex systems, so these are nice and easy to start a project with for the masses. There is a lot of talk about the Radica on this forum, yet it is nothing more than a plug 'n' play unit. I bought one recently for 50p ($1) from a car boot sale, it doesn't even have a cart slot, only built-in games - ie plug 'n' play. If there is no desire for plug 'n' play here, then eliminate the Radica from the forum section. The fact there is a good level of discussion on it shows interest after all. There are many many plug 'n' play systems, mostly rubbish, but there are some quality ones out there; including authentic NES games, MagaDrive games and arcade games.

If there is so little interest in early '80's and '70's systems, why have an Atari 2600 forum at all? One thought might be to change the wording of the forum from "Atari 2600" to "70's and early '80's systems including Atari 2600".I'm not looking at hacking an Intellivision or Jaguar (unlikely, anyway) however am interested in reading about any hacks that have been done or attempted on them.

Remember the resistance against a "Handheld Hacking" forum recently? It proved quite popular, much more than "Arcade Games".

At the end of the day, Ben owns and runs this forum, so he decides what sections he wants here, as is only right; I only suggested a little extra diversity in the forum section to cover the remaining systems - as also happened a while back for "Handheld Hacking".

Thats the problem.. There aren't any/weren't any hacks attempted.

radica would go in the genesis section as it is a genesis on a chip and you CAN add a cartslot to it, superjoys etc go to NES because they are NES clones, flashbacks go to atari etc its common sense.

As much as I love new activity here, I really don't see a need for any new forums right now. There's not much interest at all in 8-bit computer hacking, and as for plug-n-play, each of those can fit into their respective forums based on games (Atari, NES, etc.). Even 8-bit computers could fit somewhere. I know we decided a while ago that Jaguar stuff goes in the Genesis/32x/CD forum, and Intellivision/Colecovision goes in Atari, we could make a similar verdict with more miscellaneous game-related hacks.

If enough interest is ever generated in them through Ben's new hacks and the like, we may make one sometime, but as of now, I see no reason for one.

This is why I suggested a "other systems not listed before" section!

WHAT?!?!

With all of Ben's 8-bit laptops, and his upcoming C64 (if it's ever finished) I don't know how anyone could say that. I've seen several Atari 800 laptop threads, a couple of C64 threads, and I started taking WIP pics of my first portable (C64 semi-laptop) and had to ask here in 42 where to put it, to which I got a "It's close enough to a 2600" response. I think more people might get involved in 8-bit laptops if there were a bigger, more defined forum for them.

Anyhoo, I'm all for a retro pc portables forum.

afxzanac, yes Ben has made to-date, two Atari 800 laptops, the Apple IIGS OH laptop and is planning to finish his C64 laptop. However so far that is only 3. Over a year ago when the first C64 DTV came out there was interest in the C64 laptop idea, however at the time we felt that the Atari 2600 forum was just fine for that.

Look I'm sure you all would love to see more forums and the like. However they are made on a basis of need, not want. Should the time come that one of your guy's suggestions is needed we will go and add that forum to the message board. But as mentioned there is not need for them the projects mentioned are very rare and can be placed in one of the pre-existing forums.

Has anyone ever seen the Acidmods forum? They probably have 50+ forums and subforums, and it is 100% fail. The only forums I could see any use for would be for batteries and computers, both of which can be discussed in other places.

AcidMods is primarily about PSP modding, they have other sections and some interesting projects, but primarily it is PSP (LED mods, paint jobs, etc). As interest in the PSP is waning, their forum is dying as they don't have many people there anymore; also quite a few of the moderators are children and act as such, power mad and all, which doesn't help either (read posts about it there, you will see what I mean).
