Ain't gonna happen. Why?

Bluray is owned by Sony. They created it. There is no way in hell that Sony is gonna give state-of-the-art tech to a company that they are at a literal war with. On a stupid-scale from one to ten (One being "Moron." and Ten being "WTF WERE YOU THINKING?!?!?")...That'd rank a twenty-six... THOUSAND.

Sony is not stupid. At least I don't think they are.

...

Holy hell, are they?! :?
Its possible, if Sony thinks the money from licensing to Microsoft will outweigh the loss in revenue they'll lose to Microsoft. I mean hell, they've sold consoles at a loss to reap profit in game sales, which is just as crazy.
True, but all companies do that. Its how the world works. Sony just shocked everybody with how much of a cut they took. But the fact that they took one is nothing new.

As for what system. I'm a fan of Sony's work. the PS3 is a very nice looking piece of gaming equipment, plus it has the huge promise of being state of the art for five or more years (That came directly for Sony, by the way). In the gaming and tech industry...Thats a HUGE number.

And lets face it. The library for the PS3 may not be very large right now. But for the five years its graphics are going to continue to rule all that we know. Its gonna get bigger. I mean, unless we end up with a world wide game developer strike. In that case, I press my big red button labeled "Blow Up Planet". A game developer strike would mark the end of the world. So I might as well put everybody out of they're misery, right? 8)

That all being said (Kudos if you read it all), they are both rock-solid systems. And I cannot pick between them.
Please keep an eye on my HBN64 progress.

How would you feel if you ISP decided they were going to start doing "Scheduled maintenance"? You would b**** and whine about how you want to pay less if you are not getting 24/7 internet even if you were not going to use it at that time.

You know the electricity companies, when they do repairs they make sure you keep your power, if they turned that off for a few hours a month how would you feel?

AFAIK Nintendonts OH GOD WHY!? FI doesn't go down for maintenance and it is FREE! Same with PS3, free and it is good 24.7!

FGSFDS! I refuse to pay for a service that is SUPPOSED to be 24/7 if they have can not afford a backup server to use when they do this "Scheduled maintenance". What are they doing with all that money you are giving them? Well not useing it to make the online better.

Ok I am done now.
Xbox Live does not go down for 12 hours every month. In the almost four years I've been a member I can only think of maybe 6 times it's been down for maintenance. And each of those times it was for 2 or three hours, not 12. Get your facts straight before you start complaining.

What do you mean? There are plenty of games that output 1080p + 1080i, natively and upscaled. There is no issue with memory to my knowledge.

I like how just because you don't have a solid Friends list and Voice chat, that Immediately makes the Online Non-existant for any console :?

Wii-ware+Virtual Console=XBLA=PSN store (eww I absolutely hate the layout for PSN store)

Internet Channel (PS3's sucks ball compared to the Wii's, I've used both) and 360 has none :P but the Internet browser on a console is pretty novelty, but the Wii it is fun to watch youtube on your TV and play some random flash games once in a while.

As far as I have seen, Mario Strikers Charged, Guitar Hero 3, SSBB, and Mario Kart all have Solid online gameplay, and those (Except Mario Kart of course) I have played and doesn't count all the other online games currently out for the Wii.

Now I will agree and say the COMMUNITY for Wi-Fi is horrible/Non-existent compared to Xbox Live, but PS3's Online community isn't much better from what I have seen.

Actually if the game truly had 1080i/p textures, I believe it would be a memory problem, now just upscaling doesn't do crap with memory.

Actually the Playstation Store was essentially "down for maintenance" for the first two weeks of this month when it was going through it's facelift (it is much better now FYI). Ask any Rock Band fan about the DLC they weren't able to get for those two weeks. The ones I talked to didn't seem very happy about it.

That said, pretty much any service requires maintenance from time to time and I'm not going to take Sony to task for doing it and providing a better service to their customers just like I don't have a problem with MS doing it.

With regards to MS... I've been a member of Live and don't recall any major service outages or issues other than the couple weeks after this past Christmas. MS acknowledged that they were having issues and did try to make good by offering a free arcade game to everyone (including Silver users). Was it a perfect solution? No. Does sh*t happen? Yes. Life goes on.

So anyway...

With regards to the OP and some of the other comments in this thread.

Based on your lists you made for each system buy an Xbox 360. For now, and the foreseeable future, the main reason to buy a PS3 is for Blu-ray. If you don't care about that it makes the decision pretty easy. :)

And I must say that I have played both systems a fair amount and I have yet to see a game for the PS3 that looks better than what the 360 has to offer. I will admit that I haven't yet had the chance to check out GT5:Prologue (this is the first game that I feel will truly allow the PS3 to flex it's muscles), but I hope to soon.

All of the cross-platform games I have seen on each system look better on the 360. Whether it is CoD4, GH3, or Fight Night Round 3 it seems the 360 has the upper hand. And I have yet to see anything on the PS3 that looks even remotely as good as BioShock or Gears of War.

So far the exclusives seem a little weak for the PS3. Resistance and Uncharted are solid, but games like Heavenly Sword and Warhawk have been duds. They will start to address that issue this year with GT5 Prologue, LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid 4, and possibly GT5 and FFXIII. I truly think this is going to be the year of the PS3. They've got what seems to be the best lineup of exclusives coming out and the system is at a more attractive price point. It will be interesting to see where things stand at the end of the year.

All that said, the 360 has a very strong stable of exclusives already available. I believe somebody earlier said their exclusives were laughable and referenced only Halo 3 and Crackdown (both great games by the way). Only the most ardent of Fanboys would say something so laughable. Hell, I'm supposed to be Xbox Fanboy and even I can acknowledge that it's competitors have some strong titles in their lineups.

Great exclusives for the 360 IMO...

BioShock
Mass Effect
Gears of War
Forza Motorsport 2
Project Gotham Racing 3 and 4
Dead Rising
Test Drive Unlimited
Viva Pinata

And the aforementioned Halo 3 and Crackdown. Not to mention a bunch of great exclusives on the Xbox Live Arcade. Gears of War 2, Halo Wars, and Too Human are all exclusives expected to come out over the course of the year.

So yeah. As always there is more to say, but I will leave it at that.

I think you've already stated the case pretty well for the 360 over the PS3, but it seems you just wanted a little bit of assurance on which way to go.

In all honesty you probably can't really go wrong with either system, but I honestly believe you would get more enjoyment out of the 360.

As always, the choice is yours. :)

PS - In my experience backward compatibility works great on the 360. I've got about 20 original Xbox games and all but 3 or 4 of them work just fine on the 360. So that works to about 80-85% BC for me, rather than the < 0.5% that was mentioned earlier.

You guys do know that no game give 1080i max resolution it is the limit for the ps3 but no developed uses it, it takes o much mem.
Both the Xbox 360 and PS3 output video at 1080p. The number tells you the resolution of the image, it has nothing to do with the texture sizes in a game. The two are completely different things. A texture 2 x 2 pixels filling the view in 1080p game is still a 1080p image. The fact of the matter is, every 60th of a second (or 30th depending on the game) an image 1920 x 1080 pixels is generated.

Annoyingly, despite the PS3's superior hardware, many games supporting 1080p on the 360 only allow 720p on the PS3. Developers can't be bothered to code for that crazy cell processor of Sony's.

EDIT:
So that works to about 80-85% BC for me
What it is for you doesn't matter. According to wikipedia (your number one source for mostly accurate information) 51% of the original xbox library is compatible with the 360.

Yeah, but what is it for the Playstation 3? The 40GB Models don't even support it, and isn't it pretty limited with the software emulation on the 80GB? Also, looking back at the Xbox, how many of that 49% of games that aren't backwards compatible are even worth playing? Most of the big titles that you'd want to play are backwards compatible, so it's not a huge deal IMO.

That's a little better than 0.5% though now isn't it?

I didn't say that the BC rate on the 360 was 80 to 85%. I said that was MY experience. Based on that one would be able to infer that the percentage is just a bit higher than an earlier PS3 fanboy post had indicated (the aforementioned 0.5%).

And as Black Six mentioned. You don't even get BC with the 40GB PS3 which seems to be the PS3 of choice these days.

I say Ps3. Make sure you get a 20gb or 60gb as it plays anything released on a Playstation console. I don't know about 360 but you can always take the Hard Drive out of a PS3 and replace it with a SATA laptop hard drive that has a lot more space (face it, game saves, videos, and music take up a lot of room). On the same side of up grading, PS3 uses DDR2 ram, pop 2 gigs of that in and WHAMO you have a power house.

I like the free online service also. I don't usually play games online anyway so neah. The linux distro is cool, it makes it the true dreamcast of this gen (not in failure, but in emulation). I like the blu-ray drive, I already have 2 Blu-ray movies (Predator and Alvin and the Chipmunks) and they look great even on my 12" CRT TV.

According to our favorite source for questionable information, 73% of the original PS2 library is compatable with the 80GB (as of March 2007), along with 99% of PS1 games. The 40GB will play most PS1 games.

The 40GB model is the model of choice because Gamestop is no longer receiving 80GB models. :P The 80GB is being re-released as a bundle with Metal Gear Solid 4 and the Dualshock 3 controller in June or July, for $499.

Myself? I managed to find a new 60GB a few weeks ago for $399.

Wipeout HD, GT5 Prologue and God of War III: 1080p

Virtua Tennis 3 360: 1080p

Please back up claims tbh before saying something like that.

Black Six yes I do own a 360.

@jones: Microsoft don't think BC is important, UK Models BC (which has significantly less games) run about 2 games with no framedrops.

Bioshock, Mass Effect, Gears of War, Test Drive Unlimited and Viva Pinata are not exclusives.

Halo 3 is a poor game.

Crackdown is an ok game, but not a console seller.

Gears of War 2 is same of the original glitchy overrated crap, i'll take Killzone 2 thanks.

As good as 360 WAS, it isn't good anymore, it's stale already.

Alright lets get started.....

Negative_Creep: My claims are backed up....anything can show its self in 1080p but it would take a tremendous about of work to make that the max you didn't read my post correctly. also I have no idea what your reading but when has Bioshock been nonexclusive to my understanding microsoft paid a astounding amount of money to keep it that was also it has already been confirmed that the mass effect Trilogy would be exclusive.

Jongamer: That is not what I meant....I said that the 360 has the best online..which hands down is true [/u]

Actually they are as far as consoles are concerned which is what this thread is about. I think it has been well established that, for the most part, console gamers and pc gamers are two different groups of players entirely.

You are right about TDU though. I forgot that versions of it got released on the PS2 and PSP as well. Not sure how the online worked with those compared to the 360 though.
Negative_Creep wrote:Halo 3 is a poor game.
I disagree and it would seem millions of others do as well. This game is a system seller like it or not.
Negative_Creep wrote:Crackdown is an ok game, but not a console seller.
I would agree that this is not a game that moves 360s off the shelves, but it is still a fun game that I got a lot of enjoyment out of. Definitely a great "2nd tier" title to pick up. Last time I checked the PS3 doesn't have any games that would be classified as "system sellers" although that will change soon when MGS4 arrives.
Negative_Creep wrote:Gears of War 2 is same of the original glitchy overrated crap, i'll take Killzone 2 thanks.
I agree that GoW was an overrated game, but still had many strongpoints and again is a game that sells systems and has been wildly popular since its release a year and a half ago. Have fun with Killzone 2.
Negative_Creep wrote:As good as 360 WAS, it isn't good anymore, it's stale already.
Hmmmm... My 360 seems to be every bit as cool as it was the day I bought it. I'm not sure what 360 you've been playing, but mine kicks ass.
