can't decide on DS flash cart, suggestions?

I know that we typically don't talk about mod-chips and the like here, but I want to get into DS homebrew so I thought this post would be ok. Anyway, I really like the looks of the DS Xtreme, but I don't like the price. The R4 and M3 Simply look alright, but I really don't know much about them. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm not going to try to play any ROMZ or anything like that. I just enjoy programming and I think the DS has some more practical applications as a homebrew device unlike PSP homebrew.

Anyway, any advice or info is much appreciated.

Conveniently, I've been scrounging money up for a flash cart as well, so if anyone has any advice (especially where to buy one from), it'd be appreciated.

Seems that the R4 is the popular choice so far. Does it support un-patched homebrew or does everything have to be DLDI patched (what ever that means)?

I, too, am looking at flashcarts! I've found that the GBAtemp forum has a great deal of information, including indepth reviews, and a handy flashcart comparator.

From What I've seen, the M3 Simply and R4 are virtually identical right down to the internal hardware. Aside from that, I'm looking for a cart for playing legal backups of games I already own- what most people refer to as "roms"- so what I've learned wouldn't be overly useful to you.

I can't wait to get started. It'll be so nice running homebrew by simply inserting a flashcart instead of desoldiering PSP batteries and flashing firmwares and etc.

I love my r4 but my main female of the dog species with it is the inability to play gba roms. that's the only thing bad about it though. Well actually mine is kind of cheaply made I think so it occasionally freezes or my ds doesn't even register that I have a cart plugged in.

Well, I bought the R4 from divineo.com and it's already here. I've been playing tetris and compiling/running the nds examples that come with devkitpro. So far, this is a great little device. Updating the firmware is SUPER EASY, and it works like a champ.

All that said, does anyone know of any really good sites for homebrew development for the NDS? maybe something for the NDS that's like psp-programming.com is for the PSP?
