Paintball!

Okay, I've been playing this sport for about a year now, and I have to say, I absolutely love it.

My setup;

Invert Mini
Freak back with 14'' All American barrel
45/3000 Carbon fiber HPA tank
Halo B with Rip drive

As well as a few other small things, not too important. I have an Ion as a backup.

I play Woodsball, and a little bit of Speedball. I enjoy Woodsball the most. Never tried Scenario ball though.


Anyone else play?

I was also thinking of building something that would help improve my game by a lot (casual play). I just plan on using some kind of a small video camera, along with a screen mounted inside of my mask and all it needs to do is relay the video back to the screen so I can use it to peak around corners, around trees, over rocks and etc. Anyone know what exactly I should buy and will need so I can minimize costs and size?

If you're going to go crazy with a screen and everything, make it a rear-view screen. You can buy my 2.5" one! (It's waaaay too big for that. )

A mirror isn't as practical, the guns get shot as often as the players do.

Never heard of that, doesn't make much sense either. What if you want to fire the gun while the sun is behind you?

For crying out loud, when you shoot AR for sport, you black the front site post just to avoid reflection, and that's on a piece of metal about the size of the metal on a thumb tack.

How do you expect your eyes to focus on that? Your gonna put massive strain on your eyes.

An old video camera. Mount the lens assembly and other recording stuff on the tip of the barrel and extend the wires to the main camera boards to somewhere further back on your gun. Then mount the viewfinder inside your mask over one eye (might screw up your depth perception using only one eye, but I don't have depth perception, and I live a full life). Then theres no eye-strain from the screen, because its made to be seen so close. You'll want some sort of break-away cable between the viewfinder and the board on the gun, in case your gun gets ripped away or something.

Well I don't play. I would like to, but I don't have anybody to play with, and getting started is costly.

Mirrors are used in hostage situations by SWAT, I remember now, more than in the military. That means indoors.

I'm still convinced it's the way to go, however. How about a mirror that folds down? Keep it folded when you're not sneaking around corners s it doesn't get shot or blind you, and it's much cheaper than an LCD/Camera setup.

If you're planning on using my screen or one like mine), you'd be covering a whole eye.

Up here in Canada (Mind you, a 3 hour drive from the southern-most point of Canada) reflection from the mirror wouldn't be a problem most of the time. Perhaps when aiming, but who needs that?

But if you still want to do an LCD thing, use a pinhole camera and put it in the back of your helmet, drilling a hole for the lens (I'm assuming you use a helmet, as most not crazy paint ballers do). Then, wire it to the LCD in the front, and a battery pack somewhere else. You could probably get away with powering the setup with 4 AA rechargeable batteries, and definetely two lithium ion batteries in series. They don't even need to be high mAh, and would have plenty of hours in them.

Screen doesn't have to be in the mask, I can always just hold onto it. Inside the mask was just the best idea, in my head.

Vskid- I was thinking more of a set up which would just be, camera, battery(-ies), screen. It doesn't have to record, just relay. Like a security camera almost. An old video camera would work, fairly big though.

Kurt_- The mirror will be shot within 5 minutes of speedball, and isn't nearly as maneuverable as I'd like it to be. And besides, a mirror is a lot more noticeable in woodsball, what with it reflecting light and all. Another thing, this project doesn't exactly have to only apply to Paintball, theres plenty of other things this could be used for.

sorry i don't have any ideas but i have to say i also play paintball, my gun is only a 98 custom (im broke) but for tourneys with my team i use my friends System X NME w/ PIPE kit. Im glad someone else here plays paintball i thought i was the only paintballer/modder around

I'm really not a fan of the Ion, I upgraded to the Mini about a week after buying one.

I just woodball when I can, which has been about a year and a half since I last played. I have a Tippmann 98 Custom. I also have an old Tippmann model 68 special. The damn thing is about 30 years old.

ITS A HUD!. psone screen in the back of your hopper would be cool. info like amount of paintballs, amount of gas, hit counter, as well as video feed.
