I figured the Mario game was just cart only too as I didn't think you could even fit another box in there

So he opened the box to show that he was really sending a NES instead of a brick... At least he didn't open any of the inner packaging. What's the big deal? Is this the only new-in-box NES around?

Besides, it's not hard to shrink-wrap stuff again as long as you have a heat gun, the sealer, and the right kind of plastic. So, how do you know any of the other "sealed in box" items haven't been re-sealed?

It's a japanese one. I bought it a few months ago from a german seller on ebay who got a whole box of them, because they weren't sold back then (boy, I wonder _WHY_...)

I'm with Bic on this one. I was only a few months old when the NES came out but I'm sure the box wasn't sealed in plastic. Maybe there was security tape or something on the box, but for arguements sake lets say there wasnt any. Because of this there is a more broader term of "new."

If I were to spend $200 on this I'd want to know the condition of stuff inside. While it may have been "opened" it certainly still looks "new" to me; new in this form as unplayed with. All the plastic bags and twist ties are there, and the condtion of everything leads me to believe it's "new."

He could've also posted some video on youtube where he'd just light the box on fire and take everything with it.

I dont see the problem with people collecting sealed games. Sure they can't play with them, but I don't see it any different than collecting coins, stamps, or art.

It depends on how you look at the situation.

To us, playing a game is what the games are all about.

To nostalgic collectors, it's about reliving a time when video games were new. By keeping it in their original condition... well the article sums it up, although they seem to more on the 'open it up and play it' side of things.
