Zenith (PSOne screen-style) Variations
I was wondering if you guys noticed this, too; on the Zenith screens, the black ones for new consoles that look like PSOne screens, I've seen some slight motherboard variations between the models. I've had two of these so far (I think they were both Xbox, maybe one was PS2) and one was a single motherboard, while the other one had one motherboard and a daughterboard with the control components. Has anyone else ever run into this, and if so, is the difference visible in certain model numbers, or by console? I'm just wondering because I just ordered a Gamecube Zenith screen for a new portable (gotta have SOMETHING to occupy me after school!
) and I wanna be prepared going in. Thanks!

My PS2 Zenith was a PSOne screen with a separate board for power. Removing it did nothing. There were 5 cables going into the screen section with a removable part so you could take it off, for some reason. It also has an extra filter cap on the power regulator. But take off all the crap and it's still a PSOne screen.

I have one of those Zenith screens, and yeah, it looks like the guts of the Sony psOne screen put in a different housing.
I assume that all of the psOne screen hacks apply (cutting off the top of the board with the transformer, LED backlighting, etc.)
The input voltage is 7.5v from the wall wart, which it then converts to 5 for the board operation. If you're not using the CCFL backlight and are lighting it off of 5v, do you even need 7.5v at all?

For those of you who have experience, how approximate is that 7.5? I have a battery of 1.2v cells (6 of them) for 7.2v, will that fly? What's the current drain on that thing anyways? I can make a 7 cell battery of 1.2v cells for 8.4v total, but will that over-volt the display? Come to think of it, the voltage coming off the voltage regulator on the daughter board is around 8v isn't it? Maybe that'd be the ticket.

It's a lot easier to get a hold of the Zenith screens nowadays, isn't it? I've come across plenty for around $45 including shipping. That's a pretty sweet deal for a 5" lcd screen of such a nice quality.
