New web server = more ads

Post by benheck »

Well I went ahead and bought another web server today, this time a dedicated machine. The site traffic has increased about 33% in the last month and not just hits, daily visitors is about 5 times what it was even earlier this year.

HOWEVER since this is costing me even more money, and the forums account for 2/3rds of all traffic I am going to be putting a bigger and more obtrusive ad system into them to help offset the costs.

Fingers crossed for more speed!

I don' t really mind. As long as they don't "push" the forums down. Also maybe you should put the ads in your articles. (I mean that's what most people come for.

Yeah, but he said that 2/3 of the traffic is from the forums.

I welcome the ads if it makes life easier for you, Ben. (Even if everyone on the forums blocks them with adblock.)

As long as you don't have to do those annoying "every 5 pages you have to look at a full screen ad for 10 seconds" ads... (*coughdeviantartcough*) Those really suck. :(

Does AdBlock really make a difference in advertisement revenue? The browser is still loading the ad code, since I believe it's a post-processor. I mean if we don't click on the ads in the first place what difference does it make on the webmaster's end?

I think it'll push it down a little bit, and there'll be some on the right hand side as well. But something's got to pay for this site, and I'd prefer it be the site itself.

I will never EVER put those "Page Loading" ads in - those are BS.

Yeah with a daily average of 280,000 hits in June about 180,000 are "viewtopic.php" So yes, the forums. There are ads in the main site, mostly eBay.

I LIVE YOUR NEW SIG!

Thats you on the watercraft thing?

I don't mind the ads as long as they don't get in the way, I do know someone who might be willing to host the forums for free and with NO ADS WHATSOEVER! If you are interested? :D
(well if you consider it a add she says there is a small text link to her main website at the bottom of the forum... :? )
