GP2x Questions

I believe you select the clock speed in the program, or it does it automatically.

sorry i found one locally for 70

if you check ebay they have some with "broken" shoulder buttons that are easily fixed from what i hear for around 70$

And guys, I appreciate the help, but I am under no circumstances buying a PSP; now, or ever. I had not one, but TWO PSPs, both of which were not very good devices when I owned them and both of which broke. Sony offered very poor customer repair for these malfunctions, and I vowed never to get one again. Not to mention getting emulation running on the PSP is like playing Boxing on Wii Sports; more trouble than it's worth.

And I'm not really in this for PSOne, either. Skyler's still making that modded PS2p for me, though it will not be done for quite some time, seeing as I told him to take all the time he needs.

Because of this, PSOne emulation is not needed for me. I'm more of a retro guy as it is, SNES, Neo Geo, Genesis, that's where it's at for me. And as for GBA, I'm only in it to run possibly an RPG or two, and of course the Pokemon games.

Don't get me wrong, but the GP2x would be good for all this stuff, right?

Those higher clock speeds only dictate how high it can overclock to. They are still by default 200 MHz. Basically, when you buy one of the "240MHz" or "266MHz" GP2X's, it's just a guarantee that it can overclock to that. It's not worth it IMO. I got mine used on eBay, and it overclocks to 250 just fine (for SNES), but I haven't tried overclocking it higher. Also, just so you know, all overclocking on GP2X is done in software.

also newer gp2x on average can overclock more than say a first edition or something, back when i still overclocked mine i could get to about 270 and still be stable some people have up over 300mhz!

I have a first edition gp2x. I preordered before they were released. Mine clocks up to 270-275mhz. I NEVER need to go that high though. The most i clock to is about 240, 250 for a small fraction of SNES games. Nevertheless, it is nice to be able to overclock if you needed to.

I have seen people clock the PSP to a full 333MHz and I do know there is a breakout board for the GP2x to become a full mobile Linux handheld computer, I don't know how great it is buut I know one exists with about four USB ports on it

Don't Buy From them, I ordered waited 2 weeks, and sent 5 emails to find out that they said I only order shipping. I dunno how I would only order shipping but o well. Personally I think play Asia is the best at the moment. They eve send you free candy with your with your gp2x.

And they Have much better customer service, Because there actually a big web site, And have more to man them then Craig.

That's actually the reason I didn't buy from them, although it was quite tempting! Also, they do ship from the UK, so shipping time would be outrageous (well, for an impatient person such as myself, anyways.)

I ended up buying mine last night (Value Pack, of course!

) from www.gp2xstore.com , which seems to have a pretty good rep among the gp2x community as far as I've heard. The shipping time was a mere 2-3 days, so I was happy. They also offer a wide range of other items and accessories for the gp2x, as well as sale of gp32 units and the Tapwave Zodiac PDA. Check it out, and I'll post my review of the site here when I do my gp2x video review once it comes.

I don't think so; it's a Linux-based OS, after all. Don't quote me on that, though, as I don't know enough about it to solidify that statement.

Just out of curiosity, though, what windows executables would you need to run on the GP2x?

Well, the glory of the GP2x is that it's built for nerds! Homebrew-dev kits specifically for the GP2x are included with each system! And if you're not a programmer, and prefer n00-err, fine applications such as RM2k and GameMaker, there are many GP2x-specific ports of this software to develop games for the GP2x.
