I was following this http://llamma.com/xbox/Mods/xbox_contro ... pc_usb.htm tutorial to connect a Xbox pad through USB to my PC the only thing I did different was that I used an Xbox brakeaway cable and soldered the green, black, red, and white to its counterpart in the USB cable, I left the yellow of the xbox cable disconnected as it said in the tutorial and I also noticed there was a bare wire so I left that disconnected aswell, made sure no wires were touching and wrapped electrical tape around it. I then plugged it into my PC, installed the drivers, and restarted as I was told to do. I went back into game controllers in control panel and my PC still does not reconize it.
Is there anyone who knows what is possibly wrong?
also is the middle part of the breakaway cable needed inorder for it to work?
Thanks and my apologies for making this long and drawn out
Next scratch up the surface of the silver box, so you can get the solder to stick, attach the silver bundle there (this completes the grounding of the wire, helps with RF interference)
Not attaching the ground is a very good way to make it not work. I suggest you attach the bare wire to another ground somewhere.

See I'm not using the controller port to do the mod, I'm using an xbox breakaway cable and theres an exposed wire that I left disconnected. I asked a friend what to do and he said to connect the exposed wire to the USB's shielding, I then told him it had no shielding and he said leave it disconnected.
I followed the steps on that site on installing it but it still doesnt work, does anyone think it can be because the bare wire is left disconnected or something else?

Yes, the control I'm using is the original "hamburger" xbox control, but the breakaway cable I'm using is a Mad Catz I believe. The pinout you added is the exact way I followed although the usb cable does not have shielding and the xbox cable has one bare wire
