15 Years of Sonic

Post by ValiantVenality »

Wow. 15 years and still going. I think I preferrably go for a Hedgehog over a Plumer. Also I liked the Genesis over the SNES. What system do you guys like better/ what system is better? Please dont start a big flame war but dont go to easy on this subject. I will give you a list of games for each system and tell me what system you guys like better based on this information and what you guys know. Ill list 10 games for each system.

Sega Genesis

1. Sonic The Hedgehog 1

2. Sonic The Hedgehog 2

3. Sonic The Hedgehog 3

4. Sonic and Knuckles

5.Golden Axe

6. Strider

7. Phantasy Star (Too many to list so just the series)

8 Shining Force

9. Beyond Oasis

10.Gunstar Heroes

Super Nintendo

1. Final Fantasy II

2. Final Fantasy III

3. Super Mario World

4. Earthbound

5. Chrono Trigger

6. Super Mario RPG

7. Zelda

8. Super Metriod

9. F-Zero

10. Techmo Super Bowl

And please dont use these two phrases. For Genesis Fans: Genesis does What Nintendon't. And for Nintendo fans: Nintendo is what Genesisn't. These are from the Nintendo Power article I found in a magazine. You can come up with new phrases but dont use these ones. They've been used in many other forums.

There was a big artice about the Sonic Anniversary in Retro Gamer magazine. It had a blurb and a photo of every Sonic game made to date. I really wish I had a scanner so I could post it. :(

I loved Sonic as a kid, LOVED him. I even had the movie and some action figures.

My favorite Genesis games were probably Sonic 3 + Sonic and Knuckles, and also Sonic Spinball, and Castlevania Bloodlines, Shadowrun (my favorite of the 2 versions). There's a few more but I just woke up.

My favorite SNES games were Final Fantasy 3, Secret of Mana, Shadowrun, Killer Instinct...

There's more but I'm really tired. Genesis just seemed to have a lot more weak games, but their strong games were very strong. SNES had a lot of really good games but you'd never see the speed of the Genesis games there. :(

Also I think it was Genesis's medium games that kind of gave it the street cred. Games like Tazmania, Ex Mutants, the X-Men series it had, Kid Chameleon, Contra Hard Corps, the rest of the Sonics.

There's more on either side but I'm really tired, I just felt like I don't know... The systems were very balanced, but I'd wished that Genesis needed a few more heavy hitters.

Sonic owned, Sonic 3 + Knux is one of the greatest games ever released, and it's a joy to have it on my Xbox this many years later.

Well my first game system was a snes so I am very partial to it. And by the time we had it, it was near the next next gen releases ( ps2 GC Etc ) So I loveed it and we only had a few games so i like super mario world and super mario kart a lot. But I do have 2 sega genisis with about 50 games. But I play my snes with 15 games a lot more.

im a huge rpg fan so snes won me big time

sega did have the killer sports games ill give it that but for me snes was the better of the two though genisis was faster and easier to use, snes had better colors, controllers, and imo a better selection of games.

though i do have to say phantasy star was pretty damn cool...

My favorite Genesis sports game. (Still have it about 2 feet away from me) Is NBA Jam. Oh man that game was gooooooood. There just isn't very many SNES games that are that fast, F-Zero maybe? I don't know...

You stack up any game that came out on both systems, even though the games were different or whatever and they were faster on the Genesis.

Shadowrun, Contra, Taz, Ninja Turtles. The list goes on. Genesis was faster, but they didn't have the lineup. Sonic Kart would have ruled on the Genesis. What about Sonic RPG? Sonic Smash Bros? Granted it wasn't until the DS came out until there was a Mario Pinball for the Advance... Genesis where were you when we needed you? Making all those addons, sheesh. :(

I grew up with a Gen, but nowadays I wish I had owned a Snes instead. The Snes just happened to have a number of PC ports I would have loved, like Simcity / 2000, Civilization, Sim Earth, and Doom, along with the best of the Final Fantasy series.

Ahh, the good 'ole days. I actually just bought the Sonic Mega Collection thingy for my PS2, and may have to buy the Genesis Collection disc. It's loads of fun.

Speaking of Sonic, it's a shame his latest adventure on the 360 supposedly blew. It got a 4.8/10 from IGN. It's a shame Sega's too blind to see that they had the formula right with the Sonic Adventure series. They need to just leave the innovation to Nintendo and work with what they had: A winning formula.

Hey you are forgetting some fun sonics in there...

Like Sonic 3D Blast
and Sonic R
and Sonic CD
and Knuckles Chaotix

All of these are worth mentioning

Also, I was on the SNES side since we had a NES and were kinda like nintendo people
The SEGA sceen was just not that large in my family (however, when they became available in goodwills we were all over then...hello all the NES games that ruled with better playability...like Strider and Bart vs. the spacemutants and paperboy...)
I refuse to dignify myself with an intelligent and witty signature
