Image Hosting Woes (needs favor)

its called PORTABLE FIREFOX! do you have a usb flash drive of any capacty, a memory card with a usb reader anythign like that? then you can use firefox without leaving a trace of it on the computer! WOW AMAZING HUH!

Listen to the music, numbnuts, I can't do that. AOL is the provider, they are in charge of my internet. I could install firefox if I wanted, but it's not like I could use the internet with it. Not even IE works.

lets see here
1. you do not have to install portable firefox ITS PORTABLE! what part of "without leaving a trace of it on the computer" is so hard to understand
2. just because you get internet access from AOL tries to force you to use their reskinned copy of IE (dont belive me check the AOL explorer wiki page) but you dont HAVE to, it just might take a little effort to

if our ISPs were in charge of what browser we used etc we would all be screwed, your parents (no offence intended to them, im sure their wonderful people) are idiots to use AOL, it is by far the worst ISP out there.

It shouldn't be that hard to get Firefox to work, I got it working on my school computers, AOL should be easy. And if you have any trouble, no doubt there is help on the internet.

I have a friend with that problem (actually, I have friends with both of those problems), and I understand what you mean. However, I would try asking them exactly why they insist on it. Explain that AOL is a bad browser, and that 800 x 600 is a small resolution. If they still refuse to let you do what you want, get creative.

My best suggestion is to find a way to have the computer work your way when you're sitting at it, yet leave it unchanged so they can work the same way as always. I know that there are many ways to do this, but they are too numerous to list. There is a very slim chance that they'll go with the idea, but slim is better than none!

How could you have the resolution change for one user account but not the others? Themes and that are unique, but I can't get it so that the resolutions are unique to each account

If you do the "do" first and then "ask permission" method, make sure that your parents are in a good mood when you "ask permission", or else it doesn't work out the greatest.

Many a grounding has occured from "asking permission" with parents in a bad mood (because I ask when they find out).

First of all, Firefox CAN work with your ISP. You just have to have the paitence to get it working. Second, the AOL browser is basically a shell over IE, so IE should work as well. Third, you can get PortableFirefox and just put it in a folder in your My Documents folder (or any other folder for that matter), and your parents will never know.

Sorry if i'm "bugging" you, but if you switch to Firefox you'll be glad you did.

I just found out that there's firefox on my compy.

I think the PC repairguy put it there when he fixed out internet a couple days ago. He didn't even add any clue that it's there though.
It seems to only work when I'm signed on to AOL, meaning I always have to have AOL on to use the internet at all. The only advantage I'm having with it is smoother GIF animation, but other than that, browsing is much slower, even more than just uding AOL.
As long as I'm in this house, I'll just have to use AOL, it's that simple. But maybe when this horrible computer finally breaks I can confince my folks to get something like comcast.

ISP is separate from PC. I have been with the Same ISP since the introduction of cable broadband in Britain.

Comcast is alright, but from my experience (I am a comcast user), it goes down quite a bit. They are prompt with their service, though.
