The IE 7 you saw was the beta. The real deal is out now. I actually like the tabs myself. Just goes to show that you can't please everyone. :)

To each their own I always say. Although I'm glad to see that at least a couple of people are willing to give it a shot.

No the fact that IE7 has tabs shows that Microsoft really doesn't know what it's consumers want. If they did they would have had IE 6 with tab browsing. I still wouldn't trust IE anyways. It's by Microsoft and it's integrated into the OS withch means it's got a potental for security risks, unlike Konqure browser with KDE.

Is it just me or has Microsoft been doing nothing but playing catch-up lately? I mean, Vista is Mac OS X - 4 years of work +5 years of development, IE 7 is basically catching up to Mozilla (even then it's a half-arsed attempt at it).
And why, exactly, do they even need to care? Microsoft made a series of early business decisions which put them way out in the market lead. So-called alternatives may eat away at Micrososft's lead a little bit, but it would take an act of god for any of those other solutions to take the lead.

Firefox always rubbed me the wrong way. MacOS looks pretty, and I see now that it is very secure, but it doesn't do it for me in the gaming department. And, as far as the average user is concerned, going with MacOS is a bad choice in a world dominated by Windows; I can't tell you how many times I've seen college students come in with a presentation made with MacOS, and then have it completely empty of images because the Windows machine doesn't like their Tiff files. Oui...

Just my take on it all.

Good call teraflop122!

I like how before everybody ripped on IE because it didn't have tabs. Now that it has tabs they rip on it for that. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

These people won't even try it simply because it's Microsoft. It's amazing the hatred people can have for one company whether it be founded or unfounded.

I'm not perfect and I have my biases as well, but I'm at least willing to try the different products. The Wii is a good example. I have plenty of reservations about it, but I'm still going to give it a try when it comes out. These people won't even give a PS3 or 360 a chance. I guess in the end it's their loss.

It's just a shame people aren't more open-minded. It's good to see that you are though! I've tried most of the browsers at one time or another. I actually used to be a big Netscape fan for years and then shifted to IE when version 6 came out. Judging by what I see from IE 7, I'll probably be sticking with that for the foreseeable future. Time will tell. :D

Hey teraflop122, the computers that you use for presentations don't recognize .tiff extensions? Wow! I'm suprised as my dad's camera records all it's pictures to that format and really is Win98 machine didn't have problems recognizing them and letting him change them around.

As for IE, I did use it. I used it for years. Then about 2-3 years ago I moved to firefox. I found Firefox to be better as I didn't have random pop ups, didn't get viruses just from viewing a page and yeah I could have one window with multiple websites (tabs) so I didn't have several windows running at one time.

I only use IE if I have to and I mean Windows Update doesn't work, I'll enable IE to connect to the internet and then I'll go to Microsoft.com and get the updates. That's it and that's the only perpose I feel it should serve.

I tried the beta, I didn't like it. My hatred is thus warrented. Unless the final version is totally different than the beta, I won't install it. They should just drop it, and tell everyone that buys Vista to download Firefox, and then it won't be a problem for business stuff.

Funny. I've been using IE for at least 4 years now and have never had a virus from it, all popups get blocked, and in short I never have any issues with it.

In fairness Firefox would probably work just as well for most things I do. It doesn't do so hot when it comes to working with things like Sharepoint and Webmail, hence it is not a suitable replacement in the Corporate world.

So, I guess I'm out of touch. Can someone please enlighten me as to what it is Firefox is doing these days that is so revolutionary?

Obviously I'm missing something since Microsoft incorporating all of the things that in the past made Firefox so special into IE 7 is out of touch with what people want these days. The only complaint I ever heard from the common PC user about IE was that it didn't have tabbed browsing. They add that and people piss on it like they shouldn't have even bothered. I find this interesting and again a clue to the fact that I obviously must be out of touch.

Habit and fanboyism. When we change to use something and we like it and grow attached to it we dont' want to change. I can say I've experianced this having to move from IE to Mozilla when I ran Red Hat 9. Now that there are a lot of people running Firefox they dont' want to have to change and really I don't think a lot of them (myself included) are conviced that Microsoft fixthe the problem they had with IE6.

Also read the features that are listed down the page. I wonder why people would want to use Firefox other then tab browsing, hell it isn't even their first feature listed.

Many of these sound familiar. I think I saw them here.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie7 ... fault.mspx

Of course there are some that aren't listed there. They may not be called the same thing, or IE 7 just may not have the features, but then again there are many listed on the IE 7 page that absent from the Firefox page. Interesting, isn't it?

PS - Please note that tabbed browsing is not the first thing mentioned on the IE 7 site either.

To be quite honest vskid, I don't know. I've never bothered customizing my browser other than installing the Google toolbar, which is barely what I would call customizing. So Firefox just may hold the edge in this area, which is fine by me. :)
