Save Function - How about the Madden 95 / NHL 95
There is a radica version out that has Madden 95 and NHL 95 on the chip. It also lets you make trades and save your stats/season. Any thoughts?

gotchocolatemilk2: You... haven't posted in this thread...
Sparkfist: Weren't you the one who said the Genesis 3 and Nomad sucked earlier in the thread? I think the Nomad was brilliant for what it was, and the Genesis 3 was pretty nice for its size and all. I mean, we can't keep expecting things to get smaller without some sacrifices. Now they could probably make something pretty awesome though, I'd imagine. But since the Genesis 3 was made 8 years ago even, can't expect perfection *shrug*
Actually, I'm kinda surprised they couldn't get everything from the Genesis into the Radica these days

I dont remember saying anything bad about the Nomad. The Genesis 3 with some incompatablities with games and game genie is something else.
As for making is so they could put the entire Gensis into a chip, seeing as it would be in the millions of transistors and our computers are now in the billions I dont see a problem. Radica was probliby looking to fill in most of the info so that it can run native software but were not conserned too much with a full copy. Hopefully those short comings will be over come within a year.

WHAT!?
Anyway, you're also right in saying that Radica wasn't concerned with making it a full system, which presents us with problems... most of which likely cannot be overcome without massive, massive external hardware (like, savegames are pretty much impossible, as I said in the first post). I'm hopeful about compatibility though. Someone needs to get a Mega Key (too bad they're almost all in Europe...)
Hahaha! Man! The Intel P4 Prescott, a monstrosity by all accounts, is around 100 million transistors. The 68000 has 68000 transistors (hence the name). You're right, it's not a problem. But... man! Orders of magnitude off there. As for making is so they could put the entire Gensis into a chip, seeing as it would be in the millions of transistors and our computers are now in the billions I dont see a problem.

Well if the NHL games Radica is releasing (or already has) offers saves for your game wouldnt that denote that the Radica supports save games.

Yeah, suppose so. Didn't see that one
Sorry. Well, if that is the case... we can hopefully look at the differences and if they were planning this for a long enough time, there might be some way to hook the signal directly up to the cart slot even in old versions of the Radica (if, for example, there was a missing chip or some such).
Edit: Wow, the EA Sports one is a bit different... (though they didn't try too hard to hide the fact that it's a Genesis). Anyone know what that switch on the back is for?

The EA Sports Play-TV console is by JAKKS PACIFIC not Radica, it's probably a completly different beast which could be interesting... I wonder if it'll get released here in the UK?
Here's a BIG picture: http://home.businesswire.com/portal/sit ... Id=1203604
As you can see the switch on the back is simply an on/off switch. The 3-button layout certainly implies this is another GOAC though.

(Edit: It says in the picture that Jakks is an official distributor of EA Sports products. Maybe it was easier to get the deal with EA if they agreed to let Jakks distribute? Then again, you could be right and Radica somehow lost the rights. Who knows.)Red5 wrote:The EA Sports Play-TV console is by JAKKS PACIFIC not Radica, it's probably a completly different beast which could be interesting... (Edit 2: Wow. Now if this isn't a kick in the balls. From eBay:
This is the Radica unit! It's not even a Genesis at all I don't think, unless it's really crazy modified. Scary. Many apologies to Red5 for doubting his information.)
Still in light of these things, we can hope that the Jakks unit is indeed similar enough to the Radica unit that the save game feature (and hacking the ROM off of the board) still work.
In other news: Street Fighter II: SCE version of the Radica coming soon with 2 6-button controllers! Woohoo!
I think the Radica EA unit might be this weird football thingy: http://www.radicagames.com/index.cfm?ev ... tegoryId=9 Looks more like some weird-ass DDR clone than a GOAC
It would certainly be interesting to find out if the Jakks unit is a Rebadged Radica GOAC or a completely differerent unit, assuming that it is a GOAC at all that is. We'll just have to wait until someone rips one apart
The new SFII Radica sounds pretty cool, can't find any piccies of it yet though
2Pads, and 6-button ones at that, are a definate improvement.

That can't be a Radica Madden. It's also supposed to play NHL 95, and it claims to only play football on the box. Also, I saw a commercial for it and I could have sworn it was a red controller, but I just got up 10 minutes ago so my memory could be hazy.

The red controller would be the Radica Vol.2 unit... the same as the unit Ben hacked but with 6 different games and a new colour scheme http://www.radicagames.com/index.cfm?ev ... tegoryId=9 The Jakks looks like a competly different thing, if it's another GOAC it'd be interesting to see if the compatability is any better than the Radica unit.
I dont think Radica would have invested more money in to making a new piece of hardware for this. Its too much money spent over something, they most likely used the GOAC as it already is tested and proven and the only thing they have to do is write/port software over to it.
And for those running pads, its not like a DDR rip off, its more like a copy/clone of the olympic pad that Nintndo had for the NES and the summer olympic games cart.

Radica is known as mainly a maker of crappy PlayTV devices, so why is it so unbelievable? They don't NEED the GOAC. They've had their own hardware for their own stuff for YEARS now. Besides, we have now proven that the Radica Madden device is NOT a GOAC. The GOAC mentioned before (well, we assume it is one, and I admit it is quite likely) is a Jakks Pacific product, not Radica. It might well be the same thing though, and give us some insight into the Radica GOAC.
SpongeBuell: What you're talking about isn't made by Radica! Hard to believe, I know, but Jakks makes the one you're talking about. That device I showed a picture of is what Radica made out of their EA Sports license (you can clearly see the EA Sports logo on it). Why would they bother? Who the hell knows.
