Electronics classes at school

In short, my Freshman year is sucking big time. Our school offers pretty much no electronics classes the first year, except one; it's a program called OSMTech that rolls programming, math, science, electronic engineering, etc. all into one, and you spend pretty much your entire day off-campus playing with cool stuff like that. You have to test in, because they only accept something like 7 new students each year. I got in, but my mom talked me out of taking it; I wish I wouldn't have listened to her. Now I'm in a ton of AP and Honors classes, have ungodly amounts of homework each night, and here's the stinger: NO ELECTRONICS CLASSES WHATSOEVER!!!!!!!! Now I have to wait a whole freakin' year to do anything tech-related at school, and now at home, I have little time for any circuitry at all!

Enough of my complaining. Now to the question: What kind of electronically-related classes does your school offer, or lack thereof?

Well, for me, basically nothing. Freshmen year, you have to take a computer class. Basically, you learn word, powerpoint, Windows and everything about microsoft you don't use if you own a mac with OpenOffice.
Also, as a junior-year elective, you can take either art, music, latin 3rd year, or C++. C++ is kinda useless, as it's starting to get old. Plus I already know a lot of it.

My school has CADD, Multimedia, Video Production 1, & Video Production 2.

CADD is a class based around AutoCAD. Multimedia is a class based around Macromedia Director MX 2004. Video Production 1 & 2 are based around Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5, After Effects, & Maya. (Plus they run the school's TV Studio)

I'm currently in Video Production 1 *13374g3*

(I know they're not electronics classes, but at least they're computer classes...)

EDIT: Plus of course my school has a basic computing class (required to graduate) w/ all the MS-Office programs & whatnot...

Absolutly nothing as well... The closest thing to electronics offered at our school is Computer Applications 1-2 (how to use microsoft word and learning to type

My School did a Design Technology Electronics course, which was ok

but i had the worst teacher ever, now this isnt me being an arrogant pupil he really did suck, i learnt absolutly nothing from him.

The course was ok, basic stuff, ie capacitors, Transistors, PCB desgin etc

I dont know what my college does becuase ive learnt enough to do portablizing and stuff and thats all i really need to know

To graduate we have to take a class called computer tech, and we just do crap I already know with word and powerpoint and stuff. Its soooo boring. I'm taking business web design or something like that next semester and my school offers a few more computer related classes. But as to anything concerning electronics, besides the stuff done in engineering classes (I'm in Intro to Engineering right now), we have to go to a technical college a little ways away for any deticated electronics classes.

My school has 2 "electronics" courses, digital and basic. After that, they suggest you take CISCO or CADD, so now I really have to teach myself. (even though I always tend to do it that way anyway...)

Well my high school for a time had the best electronics courses in the county, that's beating out two colleges. But they really screwed the teacher over and assigned the automotive teacher to do it. So when I too the (only) electronics class, it was really nothing more then the absolute basics.

How electricity runs
What the measurement of Juel(sp), volt, amp, ect.
Set up a simple circuit

Really it was nothing but a big joke. All the teacher's examples were car and boat related, and as I'm not a car guy it bored the hell out of me. However I managed with bad attendance and shoty homework turnin to pass with a C.

I'll say this, if I see the tacher again, I'll tell him the true about how I learned about elecrionics. And that is I learned more just reading about moding video game consoles and doing some myself then I ever did in that class.

My school offers no classes of the sort Freshman year. But this Sophomore year you can either take Computer 1 (typing and history), or, if you can type above 50wpm, Computer 2, where you learn how a computer works (starting with learning binary, hex, and such), and then the next semester you learn Java. If you take Computer 2, then Junior year you can take Computer 3, where you expand Java to specific areas (networking, serial communications, etc.), and then finally Senior year you can take a projects class where you basically code/build whatever you want for 45 minutes. The teacher is awesome too.

WTF are you on about! It's still the standard for game development! You don't know copulate all.

Yeah, I know that. But it's still a simple language compared to assembly. I should change that to 'a lot', shouldn't I. Also, it's of note that I've been using C++ since I was around 10, and yet have nothing to show for it.

I'm a freshmen. My skool offers lots of electronics and software classes. Only like 3 are offered to freshmen. I'm in CADD (We use Autocad 2007

) and next semester im in Computer programming, which will allow you to take a programming language in your sophmore year. I'm thinking Java or C++

Almost no one codes in assembly anymore becuase complilers today are becoming very efficient. So basically there is no point to learning Assembly anymore.

And in my school there are no electronic classes, so shutup

We have Computer Keyboarding and Computer applications you have to take to take any other computer class, I took those my freshman year, now this year I'm taking electronic publishing (making flyers and crap with powerpoint, word, and photoshop basically) and network administration (only basic stuff, nothing really advanced)

I was also going to take Intro to Programming, but then they dropped the class because apparently there weren't enough students, but from what I hear it's becuase the teacher was only teaching the kids the stuff he had learned in his college class like the day before.

And those are all the computer classes, except for applications 2, which is stupid, but it's required to graduate from college, and it's free in highschool, so i'll probably try and fit that into my schedule next year, even though it's pointless.
