Well, the PSP has some great graphics and console-esque titles, like Daxter. A 3D Sonic game is also in the works...it's screen is big...ummm. Hmm, can't seem to think of anything else.

I found the PSP too expensive, too fragile, and too blurry for my liking. For the longest time just a few half-baked sports and racing games were available for the system, and a few..yadda yadda etc etc

Anyway,

I am talking of well buying a PSP, yes a PSP

Since the release of VP: Lenneth and the rumors of a Final Fantasy: Crisis Core, I have been torn for a PSP

however, two games a system do not make!

and I know of the sin of EMU the PSP is capable of

I would like some good reasons, games and otherwise, to devote this much money and I am asking my forum members to help me

I know of these games:
Gradius collection
Lumines
Monster Hunter
Metal Gear Acid I&II
Darkstalkers: Chronicles
 I've been thinking about getting a PSP for the exact same reasons.Well anyways, here's another reason:Where there is Final Fantasy, more RPGs are sure to come :oldwiseguywholivesonamountian: <----We need a smily like that.

i was laughing out loud at your bias against PSP when you wrote this.

after you listed the bad PSP games, you act as though it CAN'T play sonic, metal slug, or final fantasy, when in fact it can play all of those AND some good hits such as VP:Lenneth, GTA:LCS, SOCOM:FTB, Lumines, etc..

Sry i was going on a rampage :P Anyway though isnt it sad that a system based on hombrew and emulation can compete with even exceed the capabilites of a commercially backed, and commonly known handheld. I'll give you the fact that the games you listed are great, not classics but great, but of those you listed i could play 2 out of 3 of them on my PS2 as with almost the entire PSP library of games. And yes it can play the listed games, but as well as the GP2X? Hell no!

I can't see how you can say "exceed" the capabilities of the PSP, when the PSP has a massive power advantage over the 2x, the 2x doesn't have ANY 3d acceleration, the psp has almost PS2 graphics acceleration and can emulate N64 at about 80% where the 2x can't even attempt N64 emulation. Obveously the PSP can do PSone emulation perfectly because Sony is releasing an official Psone emulator pretty soon

massive power advantage over the 2x
LOL the only actual advantage the PSP has to the gp2x it the hardware 3d accelerater. the gp2x can clock just as high as the psp with overclocking so yea. and i HIGHLY doubt the psp can do n64 at even close to 80% speed the psp is 333mhz the n64 is 96mhz rule of thumb is that you have to be nearly 10X as powerful as the system you are emulating to do it 100% perfect, the psp can do it mebe 50%. if the gp2x had a 3d accelerator it would thouroghly kick the PSPs ass at emulation, plus the fact that gamepark isnt activly trying to destroy the homebrew/opensource/emuation aspect of their business is always a plus. and if psp has a "massive power advantage" how do you explain that gp2x can boot bochs in half the time the psp can or how the gp2x has a better psx emulator

Well the emulation scene is better along with the homebrew scene, personally i think as music players their equal, Video about the same, but for what the PSP was designed to do (UMD, games, etc)
you have to admit it kinda stunk it up as evidence by the discontinuation of UMD sales in some big name stores and that its losing to its main competitor http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/04/japan ... incalcula/ these are just week figures for japan but overall i think it was 21 million DS's sold and about 16 million PSP's.(CORRECT ME IF I"M WRONG)BTW For what the GP2X was designed to do (Emulation, Homebrew) its kicking ass. And finally power isnt everything, as history has shown time and time again.

sorry that this is off topic, but I've never looked at the GP2X before. What kind of stuff can you do, and how much is it? I checked their site, but I wanted to know from somebody who owned one.

The GP2X is an open source handheld based on linux that can emulate all 8 bit and 16 bit systems and we're getting there with the PSone emulation. It plays awesome homebrew and emulated games, Xvid, Divx MPEG videos, E-books, photos, and an MP3 player. Retails at $189, you need a SD card and a little technological prowess to maked it function. its a great buy beleive me, I love playin Doom, Super Mario, Vectorman Shinobi, Final Fantasy and Quake and now i can play it anywhere!. Heres some sites you should check out. http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/Main_Page

the gp2x isnt for everybody but if your fairly tech savy you should do ok, its no worse than hacking a psp (probably easier truth be told) like i said before i love mine and use it a lot, especially for the ebooks!

whatever, i would like to see YOU build a portable. and nothing wrong with having other gaming interests beyond portables, if you didnt notice the gp2x is quite a bit more portable than most of the stuff we can build.

hate to revieve this old thread but I was wondering if there were good 16-emulators that are not that hard to upload to a newer firmware

Now my reasons for this is that I have seen too many people ruin their psps because of a small mistake

also I want a emulator for the SNES that supports the SDD-1 compression chips as well as the SA-1

Also a decent 8-bit emu would be nice

Please I would like links and the like

Also Good games these
1) VP:Lenneth
2) Lumines
3) Monster Hunter
4) Gradius Collection
5) Prince of Persia : Revelations
6) Death Jr.
7) Daxter
8) Me and My Katamari
9) Metal Gear Acid
10) Metal Gear Acid II

come on If this could be doubled, the psp would become the sega saturn of handhelds (you know good games, great graphics, too expensive)
I refuse to dignify myself with an intelligent and witty signature

Short summary of homebrew on different firmwares:

1.0 - perfect for homebrew, unfourtantley was only released on the first Japanese PSPs

1.5 - can run homebrew well, just use Kxploit. takes a bit longer to load, but not that much. Initial North american release

1.51 - a security update to 1.5, AVOID.

1.52 - I think it added extra video codecs or something...

2.00 - can run homebrew with the Fanjita eLoader (using the overflow.tiff explot). Can also be downgraded to 1.5.

2.01 - was a security update to 2.0, AVOID.

2.5 - I don't know what was added in this. can run homebrew using the GTA:LCS exploit. Note that you need an older copy of GTA, newer versions patched the exploit. Can be downgraded to 1.5 with the same exploit, but you can't have a TA-082 motherboard, otherwise you will brick it (kill it).

2.6 - same as 2.5, but with some extra features nobody will ever use. (RSS channel and such, I think)

2.7 - added Flash support, and patched the exploit in 2.5 and 2.6. AVOID.

2.71 - added ability to download games to the PSP like LocoRoco (and maybe, some other useless features). AVOID. Can be emulated in the latest version of DevHook allowing you to play new games.

2.8 - added some other useless features, once again. Again, if you want homebrew, AVOID.

So basically, you want a 1.5 PSP. Unfourtantely, as far as I know all PSPs are shipping out of the factory with 2.6, and the TA-082 motherboard. Try to get your PSP on ebay if you want homebrew.

Hope this was helpful.
