Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

LED modding a game gear.

Has anyone done this before? can anyone offer any advice on how to do it? I have 2 3mm white LED's going spare ready for it and a 20ohm resistor.

Was origionally going to emulate the same principal as led modding a pocket tv but i have a feeling it might be a bit hard to find a 5v source inside the GG.

Can you even disable the backlighting system the gamegear has without damaging the screen?
My GG knowledge is minimal, but for some reason that sticks out, maybe I'm just insane though.

The backlighting system is very crude so i think it is possible to do it but since my electronics skills are prettly low i want some advice first.

I Lol'd when i first took it apart, the flourescent tube in it looks almost as big as the one's in my kitchen.

It's simple. Take out the tube and stick an LED on each end of the hole you took it out of. Hotglue the LED's on place. Desolder the DC-AC inverter* (big yellow thing). Use this calculator to find out what resistor you need, then wire it up to the LED's and the correct side of the power switch.

*Or is it a transformer?

now, next question, what is the voltage drop and the current (mah) for a standard (non superbright) white LED? need it for the calculator.

Yeah that is what I was wondering as well, if it is just a tube like the PS1 screen, then yeah no problem.
