Here's the story so far. A while back, some friends and I really started to get into swing dancing. As time passed, we were really into it - aerials, spins, you name it, chances are we (or at least one or two couples of us) could do it. One thing we noticed, however, was the lack of places to dance near us (rural North Texas, about twenty minutes south of Dallas). So, during a conversation with one of my friends, I said we should go check out a "local" club, local being in far North Dallas; since only she and I would be going (everyone else was busy) and we were both tired, we opted out, but, I jokingly suggested we open our own club. The conversation went like this:
Me: Why not start our own club?
Her: Because that would be expensive and not to mention impossible.
Me: Still though, we should do it!
Her: Riiight, you do that...
Me: Maybe I will.
As I got to thinking about it over a couple of days, I realized this might just be doable. So, I asked around and consulted an attorney (who graciously was kind enough to give me free legal advice regarding all this) and filed a DBA for the "Ellis County Swing Dance Society." Soon afterward, I surprised my friend (Brenna) with the news and she was awestruck (as was everyone else). I struck a deal with a local coffeehouse I and my friends frequent (it pays to be on a first name basis with the staff and owners) and we set a date for our first dance - this Friday at 7.00 PM until midnight! Right now I'm working with my family's long-time accountant to file for non-profit status and I expect everything to clear by the end of the month.
So far, it looks like the place is going to be absolutely packed and frankly, I've never felt more excited in my life. I'll be sure to take photos galore Friday and let you guys know how it goes. If you live in North Texas, come on by this Friday night, PM me for details.
So my swing club opens Friday night

Well, it's really only from eight to twelve, as we're giving a lesson at seven to beginners and people that just walk in and don't know what the heck they're doing. But yeah, it takes a truckload of stamina to dance that long, and people usually take breaks between every few songs. If you want to lose weight and get in shape quick, swing'll do it for you. On a typical night, somebody who dances like, 80% of the songs at a normal-to-fast pace can burn 200-300 calories per dance. In the past few weeks I've lost about eight pounds just from the aerobics of all of it, plus, the more you do it, the longer you can go next time.
