well, I have overcome the greatest software obstacle I probably ever will have: running neo geo games at full speed :D

it takes a little bit to load some games, but it's not too bad (maybe 15 seconds) Also, it doesn't detect Metal Slug X and MS5 doesn't work, but I'm already hooked on the first one anyway. Now all I need to do is get the frontend and Jukebox stuff done and I'll be all set :D

edit: softwarewise, that is

mame for most arcade games, neoragex for neo geo arcade games, gens for genesis, glaunch for a front end, stella for atari, and something for NES. At least, that's what I'm planning.

Building a MAME cabinet is one of the next few things on my list of hobby projects. I recently (mostly) completed "The EmuCon (prototype)", which is a PC with tv out set up to play Atari 2600, SMS, NES, GameGear, GameBoy, Genesis and SNES games. It uses a menu system to select system and games, among other tasks (watching videos, playing CDs or SVCDs...), supports up to 4 players (using slightly modified SNES controlers), and uses a hacked up keybaord "remote" to navigate the menu and exit games. I haven't yet added support for games using the Atari driving and paddle controlers, but those are planed as well. I'd also like to support lightguns, but am still looking for the best way to do that. The final version will use a mini-itx board and either a custom case or maybe just an NES case.

What are you going to use for the display? An arcade monitor, TV, or just a PC monitor?

Also, why did you choose glaunch? I originally chose it for my menu system, until I got annoyed that it wouldn't use the whole screen to display names.

i dont know about arcade moniters but a computer moniter would be much better than a tv graphics wise (VGA baby) of course if ur in europe with SCART tvs which uses rgb then use the tv if it is bigger
