removing n64 cart slot / expansion slot.
Hi guys,
can someone be so kind as to point me to some good info on removing these items. Yes, I did some searching, but haven't yet been able to find anything helpfull.

Nah, that can damage your board. Take Kurt_'s advice and buy a desoldering iron. Pull on the cartridge slot until it unplugs and desolder the pins. Usage of the iron is pretty simple, just squeeze the bulb, place it over the lead, wait a few seconds until you feel the solder melt, let go of the bulb (causing it to inflate), and blow the solder out somewhere like pop can cut in half (I use a little clay pot myself). It may seem like a lot of pins to do, but it goes quick.

Hi,
I really do feel like crying. I've spent many, many hours trying to relocate my cart slot & when I plugged it all in, I got the red led to power on, but no video. Anyone have any ideas? I couldn't really remember which way the cart went in originally, so I tried many different configurations. Did I miss something stupid like a ground or something?

Ok, I guess it is time for me to confess & step up.
I have no idea how to use a multimeter. I know i'm very embarresed. I will have to run out to radio shack tomorrow on my way home from work & pick one up. I'ts time to face the music & learn. I tried reading the chapter in the book on them, but I'm still not clear. I think I have to turn the dial to ohm, & then I guess point one end to the start & one end to the end of each cart wire, but I'm not really sure. Thanks.

you need it to test for bridges? what i do is set the dial to the diode symbol and if a bunch of numbers show up then it's connected and if it does nothing it's not connected

anyway, you usually set it to the Ohm setting, and hit a button to set it for continuancy testing. there might be a separate thing with a volume symbol on it or something, also. use the two leads (red and black) to touch two pins next to each other to see if they connect. if they do, then see if they are physically connected. I believe the last two pins in each row are connected, so don't worry about those.
