GP32 Question

Post by Sir Games-A-Lot »

Hi all, I am considering getting a gp32 but i am unsure of weather to wait till lik-sang has the gp2x in or buy a gp32 backlit off ebay. this wouldn't be an issue but the official website says that the '2x won't be backwards compatiible.

any thoughts or sugestions?

K i have had two gp32's for 3 years. i have a flu adn a recently brought blu not a blu+. Stuff is not backwards compatible. The 2X is easier to code for adn port. has better video playback. More abilitis and raw power. Most coders are now working on gp2x stuff and www.gp2x.co.uk is a good place to order frm. or www.gp32z.com

I say wait to buy a GPX2 until it has the programs available for it you want. I assume you interest in the GP32 stems from it's enormous emulation library. Another system, the XGP, will also be coming out. Some of the GP32 programmers may choose to buy that system over the GPX2.

Take it from me, a Tapwave Zodiac owner (the last system everyone thought would replace the GP32), don't buy an empty basket. Wait until it has the eggs you want (emulators for the systems you like) before you buy it. Besides, it might be cheaper by then.

I had no idea the 2x was so close to release.

I still want to wait for the homebrew scene to warm up to it, before jumping in. This system appeals to me far more than the DS or PSP does.

wow, it hooks to a TV--I'm completely sold on it.
looks like I have a replacement for the old modded xbox.

assuming the homebrew scene starts going on it.
I can't believe they only sold 30,000 gp32s

Well that fact that like two stores stocked the GP32, the low number is no surprise.

the gp2x has had 2 production runs totalling 8000 units, all are preordered :o the devs are already workin on it including squidge and reesey! w can expect a snes nes amiga a500 and mebe cps1 or system 16 emulator if all goes well, within a few weeks even! there is already a working snes emulator and an early build NG CD in the works, squidge has ported UAE already, is optimizing it now, DRmd might be on sometime. i know almost as much about the 2x as sam fisher does about the 32! not quite as much but ive been lookin at this thing for several months

I am interested to see what the XGP http://www.gp32.com/ isgoing to look like. Supposedely it is set to compete with the PSP and DS. Oh the GP2X is made by Game Park Group (which broke off from the original Game Park) the XGP is going to be made by the original Game Park company. I would wait to see what the XGP can do before I get one. On a side note what kind of stuff can linuix, on the GP2X do? I want a Tapwave Zodiac (which they are sadly not making any more) so I can get the functionality of a PDA as well as a fun gaming device. But if I can surf the web and have a calendar and what not on Linuix that I can link to my PC then the GP2X would be awesome, as long as the emulators for it are good.

let me help you. The XGP will play nearly half a dozen crazy Korean titles.

it will compete valiantly against both the PSP and DS...in korea...
because Korea gets very, very few nintendo/sony games--a system that plays a whole half dozen korean titles will totally pwn.

according to dgemu and pocketheaven, korea got exactly 4 GBA titles. what'd we get, ~800? (they must import a lot or learn japanese early in life)

Perhaps some crazy eastern-european homebrewer somewhere will get a hold of one, write all of his own programming tools and release his intrepretation of breakout, but that will be the entire non-korean xgp scene.

though I do like how the screen swivels...
