Eh, I'll just do the 1.2 thing. So, just to confirm:

I'll need a 7805 and 6 one-ohm resistors.
I hook up 5 of the resistors in parallel to create a .2 ohm resistor.
I put the 7805 in series with my one-ohm and my .2-ohm resistors.
This will reduce incoming voltages down to a range of 3.2 to 3.56 ...

What's the source of the whole "NUS-001s can take higher voltage" thing, anyway? Official tech specs? Trial and error? What? How reliable is it?

What would it be with just a 1.0 ohm resistor?

Edit:
Nevermind, it's already been answered. But wouldn't 3.5 to 3.8 work because I have a NUS-001?

Wouldn't it be easier, if you go with the 7805, to just put two of those 1 ohm resistors in series? Shouldn't that get you comfortably in the range for the 3.3 line?

Any chance I could get a diagram of the LM317 and the resistors in parallel?

So, I should go with 2 ohms instead of 3 just to be safe? Since my N64 is a NUS-001, I should probably error on the side of too many volts instead of too few.

Well, I've got a NUS-001. Can I get away with 2 ohms of resistors? What voltage would that give me?

Oh well, I'll forget the lm317....

I guess I'll just use a 7805 with three of these:
http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&product%5Fid=271-131

That'll be less efficient, but at least all of the parts will be easy to wire. So, this is my new diagram:

Wait, I don't see any with the right number of ohms on that search result...

Ok, so they have resistors at higher wattage tolerances. Do they have ones with the right resistance at those wattages?

Oh, and is everything else ok with my wiring diagram? Even if the resistors couldn't take the current ...

The ones I'm looking at are these:
1/2W 470 ohm resistor
1/2W 680 ohm resistor
Does Radioshack sell better ones?

Note from Gamelver: don't know why, but I don't want my screen to have be able to scroll left/right!!!! :P...so, I did some editing ;)...

Ok, so I think I've got the hang of this...
If I've designed this right, this should allow me to power an N64 and Psone screen off of the batteries or the AC adaptor that came with the screen and give me seperate power switches for the N64 and screen so that I can use AV inputs and outputs.

So, that'll work for any input voltage within reason, right?

Actually, I just thought of something. I think I've read something about older N64s having a bigger voltage tolerance or something. I THINK my N64 is from the first batch or so from when they were released. How do I tell and what's the max number of volts it can take?

Eh, I think I'll be lazy and use the 7805. What kind of resistor do I need?

Ok, so how do you set up the adjustable one to output 3.3? Use your diagram?
