Haha! After much head-scratching i've got it to boot pal and ntsc carts without freezing.
For some reason, having pin 15 of both pif's connected to the mainboard is causing the problem.
I fitted a switch to toggle between them and all is well, unless a controller is plugged into port 2.

Hi all, been happily modding my n64 recently but now i'm stuck.
I've removed the pif chip from a pal n64 and connected it up to an ntsc n64 as shown in this thread:
