The input voltage is 7.5v from the wall wart, which it then converts to 5 for the board operation. If you're not using the CCFL backlight and are lighting it off of 5v, do you even need 7.5v at all?
I believe that there are a couple chips that need ~7.5v, theres got to be a reason, or else someone ...
