Nope, it is official, all stock components out of a PAL (UK specifically) snes mario all stars pack

The snes uses a 8 parallel to serial 4021 register chip which regularly samples the status of each button and outputs it as a digital signal along the 4th pin on the controller so there is (afaik, I did my A level project on snes controllers) no analog state, its either activated or not activated.

Sorry if I have mislead you, the console doesn't say its an ac input but the transformer I got with the console and have been using for the past 10 years to power it outputs AC at 9v (measured at just over 10v AC, oh yes I can use a multimeter :D )

I know, I'm with you on this one it seems idiotic but I can assure you that my pal snes (very early model) takes an AC input. The exact wording on the supply is:

AC Adapter
Model no: NES-002 (GBR)
Input AC 230/240V 50hz 17W
Output AC 9v 1.3A
Power Supply for use with (Super) Nes Control Deck only ...

okay, but why would nintendo have an ac input on the snes if it could produce a wall plug that outputs a dc voltage over the 7.2v?

and just to check your saying that the snes can accept both AC and DC?
