Flickering Gray Screen

I know that this is listed in Ben's book as a "Dirt and grime issue" but has a flickering screen ever happened for a different reason?
For example:
If the screen flickers, is the cartridge connected incorrectly?

If not, what is the best way to clean the cartriges?

Well that's ironic

I took apart my NES mobile and found that I had mistakenly soldered the ground and Unregulated power pins on the 7805 regulator together. Thanks.

Powering Up the System

I have everything hooked up on my portable NES but when I insert the battery pack it gets very hot very quickly. it melted some of the solder of the positive and negative wires on the phono jack. Any idea what to check?
