No, the screen and transmitter will operate on their own rechargeable battery and together they will make up one unit that simply clips to the controller. Hopefully I can start building this thing in the next couple weeks once my parts come in and I have some time on my hands.

I am sure they intentionally left it out since they still manufacture and sell the ps2.

I think this is a very good idea. I like how you don't have to chop up your xbox, i may try to tackle something like this myself. Interested in seeing the finished product!
