I'd reflow solder to the RF unit, and while your at it, also to the AC jack joints. Those break a lot on genesis, never had problems on NES, But I know it still happens often.
If that doesn't work, does anything EVER come up? Even garbage?

Re: rgb nes fun
Lol, that way to "find out what's wrong" is the opposite of the right way to do it. Just isolate it from the signals off the chip with some sort of scope and meters and debug it from there. There's 100% no need to do what you did, it's messy, wrong, and a pain to work with.

Re: Virtual Boy controler to NES
Hmmm, I am not sure, but that is interesting! I might try that on my own crappy controller just to do it. How'd you find out? :P

Haha thats not one from CustomNES guy is it? Not to be mean, it just doesn't shine like his :D
And if you go into the NES, locate the NES Lockout chip, and just snip pin 4, it'll disable your lockout and make your life 100% easier. :)
edit:
Check out his systems and custom games. Epic.

Re: rgb nes fun
From the looks of it, it's not. And the jailbars are from the amplifier if I recall some time ago on a thread on NESDev or Nintendoage. Okay, atleast you did that with a socket, which would be amazingly bad if you didn't. And actually, with the 40 wirse like that, it's more likely for something to ...

Re: rgb nes fun
Stacking won't work, you'd have to actually make them so that they don't have any bus conflicts, which actually requires some knowledge. And you should only have to re-solder a 40 pin IC socket to the NES board, drill out the three holes for RGB and cut the trace for the SYNC pin hooked up to RF so ...

Re: In the Process
With desoldering braid, you'll be doing a lot more gamage to the board. I use it to clean up the circle contacts after I remove chips from my NESDev boards I make, but if you use just soldering braid to remove all of it, It'll be slower, more expensive (In a way), and a lot more damage to the board ...

Re: Virtual Boy controler to NES
Good news! And maybe you should test it with a game of Crystalis. That'll put it through it's paces....and your patients, in a good way.

Re: rgb nes fun
Playchoice has pretty much the same game hardware, but menus and such are in it, with the Z80 also being able to run a game side-by-side as it also has control of the CPU bus from info on the web, some games might have used this, I am not sure, it kinda is unlikely, but some stuff could be done on ...

Re: Virtual Boy controler to NES
Hmmm okay. Then I guess the readout is different!
Yeah thats seems the most logical to get it to work.

Re: Virtual Boy controler to NES
I will check soon but I assume that it reads off the same data from the serial chip inside the controller, so once you hook up the right pins of each connector, it should work fine if that is true. I will edit this later with the right info, I know for SNES that kept the readout and "protocol" the ...

Re: rgb nes fun
it's just an oversized rgb nes that only accepts playchoice games which are rare and expensive and exactly the same as the home versions
[If only you understood the difference between 6502 and Z80 and Zero Pages, you'd be crying that it's different then the home version! And it's a lot ...

Hola again, PFT! (Is 65024U on NESDev)
You might want to look into finding a cheap Coleco system in a controller to take out the chip in it, since the chip inside is a N ES O n A C hip and runs on lower power and isn't as bulky as a full clone system.
