Possible good find for anyone doing a portable DC

Lately, I've been working on a future GC and have been scoping out 7" screens. While checking Ebay I came across this:

Xenarc 7inch LCD Monitor, Model 700Y for $90 seems like a good deal for this. I used to deal with these in some PC modding aspects but the price was always unreachable in those days.

Now this 700Y version only has VGA Input (15 pin D-SUB) x 1 which leads me to the whole DC aspect of this. The DC's native VGA support. You'll still have to work out your sound but if I were doing a DC project I would definetly look at this screen. It's CCFL with a less than 8ohm power consumption but the resolution is incredible with great contrast and brightness. It also has a mirror image flip feature which might come in handy in how ever you decide to attach the screen.

Don't overlook this. There were 4 available at the time of this posting. I only wish I wanted to do a DC right now.

The 2010 Xenarcs are coming to market now too. They have switched to LED backlighting. The 705YV is less that 5ohm comsumption.

"ohms" is a measure of resistance, not power draw. youre looking for amps.

Yeah. I just through out that power consumption thing from the Xenarc website. Less consumption sounds better to a layman like myself. With the voltage being consistant in either resistance (8 or 5ohm) we're roughly at a 37% percent savings.

This whole thing gets me all giddy. We have two obviously necessary factors in competition. Battery technology versus Backlighting technology. What will advance quicker? Saw something a few months ago about some new nanotube discovery and the future of batteries. Could be very exciting in like 10 years probably. By then I predict the last of the 80s/90s fanboys will be sitting back in their rocking chairs talking about the good ol' days of platforming and when there was no such thing as a "SAVE".

The dreamcast VGA adapter has a headphone jack for running audio whilst the DC is plugged into VGA. Easy to split that.

I think the unit of measure you are looking for is the watt. Also, look at lilliput screens, they are offered in similar styles and sizes to the xenarc screens but are often cheaper

Something I always thought was funny was the measure of conductivity as opposed to resistance. What's funny about that you say? Well the unit of course.. mho

ohm backwards..

I encounter it on a daily basis in regards to the chemical treatment of water.. fascinating stuff.. Did I mention I also enjoy watching paint dry?
