Just so we know here Long time ben heck follower just never really wanted to spam threads...
Ok well ive become pretty damn ambitious on this project, Ive gone balls out and got all the goodies including a Kensington keyboard thats super thin. Going to use my 22inch acer for a screen. got the webcam. wifi adapter and all that goodness. But right off the bat ive run in to some trouble trying to De-solder the caps. Using a 40Watt desoldering iron... any ideas as to why?
Yet another 360 Laptop... Need help

i also had this problem. in fact melting new solder didnt help me. i too have a 40 desoldering iron with bubble. i just cant seem to get those darn connections off. i left my caps up, my case was big enough. my problem is the usb, sata, network interface, and other big things. i'm about to invest in a heat gun to melt it easier. i just dont want to damage the board

You will require a higher temperature to melt the alloy (It's not solder) (I'm not an expert by any means for soldering irons....I'm a Circuit Board Manufacturing Engineer)
Leaded boards, or shall I say the flux that is used during assembly for Leaded boards, are typically assembled at 225c. The new ROHS, aka Lead-Free fluxes, assembly process requires higher temperatures due to these new alloys being used. You're looking at a temperature range of about 250c.
Be careful though! Cheers.

Try usign a solder station if you can get your hands on one. With variable temperatures.
