Play Videos on you Wii. No Hacking required

I was browsing the net today when I found this. It's called Wii Video 9. It a software that converts video in the video format that the Wii uses. Then put the video on a SD card. Put the SD Card in the Wii. Go to the Photo Channel and you should be able to watch videos.

yeah, I used it like twice, I hate the awful boxy grid or whatever it is, that is on the video when you play them.

I just use XBMC, best media player EVER, just try to find one that is 100% free and plays ALL the popular media types plus some uncommon ones, and is fully skinable, and can run on a HDTV at 720p and 1080i.

Nope didn`t think so.

Nope didn`t think so.

The original xbox can output 1080i? wow, I didn't know that. I have XBMC and I've been using it on my crappy television when I have a 1080 i television down the stairs O.o

I heard 720p works like a dream, but I hear that it studders and hiccups at 1080i, I only know that from a couple posts at the xbox-scene forums, so results may vary.

ya it struggles at 1080. awesome at 720 tho. if you do the processor and/or ram upgrade itll handle 1080 just fine

I JUST today set up a network to load media off my computer from my Xbox, It`s awsome because you don`t need to install anything on your PC/MAC, just set up a network and share the Folders/Drives with your private network.

Same here. I could play mp4 and avi video files from my computer that is wirelessly connected to my network. Transferring files was a breeze (like games to and from the xbox for hacking purposes).
Too bad it's almost a hassle to obtain a copy...
and the plugins like youtube rule.
Sorry, I went off on a tangent there.
But seriously, the wii wasn't made for videos.

That is what I used, but I guess you could say that most other people don't understand FTP and IRC....but I guess if you managed to hack your xbox, doing that wouldn't be so hard

I had to go through a few FTP clients before I got one that worked the way I wanted to. Internet Explorer worked ok, but sometimes it just stopped.

XBMC is winner. I use my 360 mainly for videos though because I noly have a composite cable for Xbox.

Sadly, this Wii Video thing is pretty limited and has shortcomings... good find nonetheless though.

That is what I use on my home theater pc. Once you get the hang of it, it runs circles around Vista Media Center in my opinion. It too has it's limitations, such as a current free TV Guide. The skins are awesome, and the fact that it is open source and you run it in Windows is great! HTPCs are nice! Build one with enough horse power, use your favorite Media Center and get a decent remote to work with it and your set! Logitec wireless gamepads are nice too.

I run a file server, and rip my DVDs and Music CDs to it's hard drive. The media center software actually library's it all. You can run tons of great codecs to get digital audio out and a great resolution in whatever format your TV can run.

I have a similar setup, but it's running Meedio Ultimate. It does what I want but doesn't have a TV tuner. (My TV Wonder VE card doesn't have onboard MPEG-2 compression capabilities so it unfortunately doesn't work with anything but its own software. Oh well, what do you expect for 5 bucks?

(Clearance at Best Buy.)

It's running Filezilla server for file transfer, and I use TightVNC to control it from my desktop. (It's fun because changes happen in real time on both the TV and the remote window.) It can't do video or anything particularly well over the network but it's fine for re-arranging files. You might want to try it out; once you get it set up you will never have to squint at the TV to read filenames in Windows Explorer again!

The only real problem with it is the video card. It's an old AGP Radeon 9250 I paid $15 for last year. I'm looking into X1650s and X1550s now, and have a lead on a "$75-ish video card" from a teacher who can get them for wholesale prices. It struggles to run Sam & Max.

As long as it's AGP, reasonably priced, will last a few years, and has TV out, I'm a happy camper.
