It should work just fine, I have done it myself.
But there really is no danger of shorting anything out with my way if you take your time. The connectors I choose are made to fit the width of the cable and extension cable perfectly. So when you put them in together the pins will line up perfectly. And I chose the connectors with a little extra height so that 2 cables will fit in together.

well thats good to know, and hey if it doesn't work, i can just default to your method, specifically. just out of curiosity though, do you have any pointers for drilling the holes in the case for the speakers?? i plan to put them in the same place you did with ur first dreamcast.

Perf board. Use a marker to mark the pattern you want. Tape it down and drill the pattern

i actually started a thread about that a few weeks ago,
. someone said they would try and test the points with a multimeter, but they never got back to me. although, i do have a stripped reset board from another ps2 that i killed, maybe i could try tracing it. let me see if i can take a few good pics of it and i'll post them, and we can try and work it out

ok, here are the pictures i took:

i know it looks like the incredable hulk stuck his fingers in the shots, but actually i just turned the gamma up really high (isnt that how he got his powers??) to make the tracks easier to see.
i'll take these into paint program and start doing traces, then i'll post my findings, but the raws are here so you can do the same, and we'll see what we can come up with.
what do you think??

ok well i've traced the pads, and made a diagram of the points needed:

using this information we can remove the reset pcb, but unfortunately the ps2 cannot function without some manner of rest button, unlike its predecessor.

Re: PS2p hailrazer style----i really need to give it a name!!!
well i have a fair bit of progress to report today. i got my new battery unit yesterday, and i now have it fully installed in the case. i didnt have to do nearly as much relocating or hacking of it this time, as a result of my motherboard housing being about 2mm higher than it was last attempt.
i only had to move 4 of the components this time, and for the rest, i just made some specially shaped holes in the bottom of the mobo housing to accommodate them.
unfortunately though my camera has quit on me, so i wont be able to post any pics of my progress for a bit. i am however planning on taking a trip up to the hock shop again soon, and i'll see what kind of deals they have on digital cameras there.
anyway, i do have a quick question for everyone. my battery has a little 4 LED battery charge indicator, that i can relocate to any place i want on the lazer doodle casing, and i was wondering where might be the most appropriate place to put something like that. Ben's PS2p uses the same battery, and thus the same indicator, heres what it looks like:

any input would be greatly appreciated

Is going gameboy style an option? How bright are the LEDs? Are they distracting?

Re: PS2p hailrazer style----i really need to give it a name!!!
they are set up so that they only light up when you press a button, however there is a dual color bulb that lights up during charging, and yes it would be rather distracting. even the blue controller LED im putting in is for some reason 2wice ase bright as the usual red one, so im gonna have to put a little potentiometer on it to make it dimmer. im thinking i'll just go with what Raizer suggested though, and stick them in the back, between the two sets of L/R buttons.

Re: PS2p hailrazer style----i really need to give it a name!!!
I HAVE LANDED ON A NAME!!!!!!
thanks to Raizer04, my PS2 project now has its name:

thankyou so much for coming up with all those great ideas dude!!!!
im still not finished with the logo yet, thats only the premise for it. i want it to look a lot better, but i suck at photoshop, so my buddy is gonna come over and help me get it the way i want it to look. honestly though, i dont think any name suits it better, so again thanks to Raizer04!!!!
on the more technical side of things though, i just got the switching regulator in the mail today, the one Hailrazer suggests, and it works great!!! its super efficient, totally adjustable, and perfect for the purpose of keeping the screen voltage within ideal operating levels

man today has been an awsome day for my portable, thanks a lot you guys, for all your helpful input!!!!

Re: AngelArm1110's PS2p - the Kingdom PS2!!!!
i have given a bit of thought to how im gonna paint it, and im thinking i may not go with one solid color. im lucky to have a good friend who is extremely artsy, and shes really good with an airbrush, so im thinking me and her might collaborate on the outer case decals, but if i had to give a realistic premise now, i would say i wanna go for something silver, black, and blue, in a pattern kind of like this guy's trench coat:
