How much did that bass cost ya? I could imagine it not being very cheap...

It's around $1200-1300 retail, but I got it for $850 refurbished! The thing is, I normally would never trust a "refurbished" guitar, but Steinbergers are built like tanks. Don't believe me? Watch this!

As far as the pickup, I'm not entirely sure which EMG model it is, but it also has a Piezo pickup in the bridge. With both of them together, you get incredible range, especially when paired with a good amp. It's worlds better than my Thunderbird that I used to play.

Any of you guys considering a Steinberger, go buy one, NOW! Almost all of the guitar models are available on Musiciansfriend, they start at $400. The basses are more difficult to find, except for the high end ones.

ive got an epiphone thunderbird replica which is pretty good for how much they are, weighs a bastard ton though

Haven't really played that since i got my Fender Jazz bass

Ugh, I never really got into those "showy" basses because always weight a ton. Trabens, Gibsons...Even Fenders tend to be thicker. I went Ibanez basses because they dont weight much, they have thinner necks, and the new Bartolini electronics destroy others that I've heard. COmpared to my older Ibanez with the EMG's, the Bartolinii blows it out of the water.

i dont mind heavy basses, but its the thunderbird's top heavyness that did me in. you let go of the neck, the head plummits straight down. Which isnt very useful if you want a light touch and quick movement.

Yeah I have the same one, and haven't played it since I got my Steinberger I've been trying to get rid of it, but it's rather hard to sell it when people ask me why I'm getting rid of it. I can't just go and tell them that it's incredibly top heavy and inconvenient

My Steinberger isn't all that heavy, but it is surprisingly dense because it's primarily made of metal.
