Wow, the PSOne LED mod SUCKS.

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

This is true, but the first ones I list in my post (the 10,000MCD have a 30° viewing angle.

Anyone going to apologize for flaming the PSOne screen LED mod now that we have brightness?

Kind of off topic but not so much to open a new thread, but I was wondering if the psone (unmodded) lcd can run off a 7.2v 1100maH battery. I would test it myself but I can't find the charger to my battery. I might have the pins wrong because I only use pin 1 (7.5v input) and pin 2 (ground).
Thanks
EDIT: I'm hoping that I don't need a new battery but if the input is 7.5 and I'm only giving 7.2 would it be that precise :? The snes is supposed to use 10v (on adapter) but it can run at like 6v I think (someone did it I'm pretty sure). Could someone recommend me a 7.5v battery with good maH? From what I remember I saw a lot of 7.4v batteries will I be able to find a 7.5v?

Of course it can. It doesn't matter what the capacity of a battery is, because most can put out currents higher than what your wire will handle. All that the capacity determines, is how long the battery will last.

thought i put the link for the led's in my last post... here it is:
http://www.ledautomotive.com/OrderInfo/ ... htInfo.asp
btw, you can order a psone screen from ebgames.com it's about $29 plus shipping (1 day overnight is $10, so looking at $40 in all on that)
BTW, the viewing angle on these is 30 degrees as well
Why make a portable? Because I want to be able to game cordless.

and here's my PS2p !!

EB actually has some used PSONE screens in stock in some of the stores.

Too bad those are only in places I used to be, not where I currently am.

th3c4rd, those are only 8,000mcd, the other ones are 10,000mcd (and yes, they are 3mm, 30° viewing angle)

Sweet! There's 3 stores with the screen in my area too! I can finally make my N64p (and maybe start a GCP!) :D  Wiggling lip of death!

Here is a site that gives an approximate lumens calculation for leds given mcd and viewing angle. It is only an approxmation but it will help to compare various LEDs.

For example, a 7000mcd led with 30 degree viewing angle puts out about 1.5 lumens, while 410mcd leds with 140 degree viewing angle (like the ones I used in my PSONE mod) puts out about 1.7 lumens. So angle makes a big difference. FYI, a 10500 mcd led with 30 degree viewing angle puts out about 2.5 lumens, so they are pretty bright. The 15000mcd led with 15 degree viewing angle only puts out 0.8 lumens, so not as good as it sounds.

Keep in mind that this is approximate as lumens measures luminous flux (the amount of light put out by the led in all directions) and candellas measures the luminous intensity (the intensity of the light in one direction). There is a bit more information here if you want it and, of course, Wikipedia always has good info.

Speaking of the latter link, you'll notice that in the table of SI Light units illuminance is defined as lumens/square meter, and that illuminance is defined as the amount of incident light (which, in the end, is what we care about). This is why lumens, and not candellas, are important when determining what led to pick for the mod.

All this for what? A 10,000 mcd LED with a 30° viewing angle still pwns a 2,500 mcd LED with a 30° viewing angle so we should all get the 10,000 mcd ones anyway.

Show me the data sheet for the 10,000mcd led and maybe I could agree. But the led still looks pretty blue, which is another issue entirely.

And there is still an argument to be made that a 30 degree viewing angle is not as good as a wider one, say 50 or 100, because of the deficiencies of the PSONE diffusion material.

But until somebody does some definitive benchmarking tests, I'd guess I'd tenatively reccomend the "10,000 mcd" led; I mean, at the very least the thing is cheap.

Click on the link in my post about them and the datasheet is pretty much right there. It tells the voltage (3.5v) the mA (30mA) and other stuff. The bluishness could be caused by bad photography, so we need someone to test them out before everyone rules "too blue".

hmmm....those LEDs look nice....I'll definitely order some :)...but in the meantime, I'll still try and get a brighter backlight with the 5000mcd ones I have :-P...
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

Is there any way to adjust the contrast or color on a psone screen? If you are using RGB, you could just put pots on each line for color, but there doesn't seem to be a way to adjust contrast…
