The I/O code needs considerable changing. Yes it is a port, but it could be accomplished with a patch that replaces some (lots?) of the code.
Simply patching the game would not fix the plethora of introduced issues. Screen resolution? Different audio system? Input changes? ARM7 binary introduction? More than a patch would be required.
Well you would have to patch all that. I know, you pretty much have to rewrite a lot of the game, meaning that if this happens it will only be for popular games.
That would require much more effort, and produce less reliable results. Working on a compiled rom is stupid when the source is readily available!

You have a point there, but from a legal standpoint... well it doesn't really matter with all the romsites anyway does it?

No, I mean from a practical and ease-of-use standpoint. Working with source is much easier.

That's probably because you don't work as a software developer for Nintendo (or a licensed game production company) I know you kids only care about the ROMz, but the reason this was brought up in the first place was to guess how Nintendo would sell GBA games as DSiWare, not to figure out how to pirate GBA games on the DSi.

Not 'pirate' roms, 'backwards-compatibilize' roms. And the point WAS to discuss that. Why should I pay for something I bought 3 years ago?

In any case, we've already hijacked the thread enough.

*major facepalm*

NINTENDO would be the ones applying the "patches" you speak of, so I mean NINTENDO, who already HAS the source, would use that instead. It's like choosing to pain with a paintbrush or choosing to smear shít all over your car. You pick.

And you my friend are completely missing my point. I don't WANT TO PAY FOR GAMES I ALREADY BOUGHT! THE WHOLE POINT WAS TO MAKE GBA ROMS RUN!

In any case, enough threadjacking.

You know what you just did? You told the thread starter to stop threadjacking his own thread.
That's only a minor facepalm, but a facepalm nontheless.

I can answer that, as I'm using it right now. It's good. It's not nearly as fast as a computer (Mine at least) but it's pretty fast. It's a bit faster than the psp web browser if that helps.

Did you really just switch points? Earlier it seemed your point was that it would be easier for nintendo to patch their roms themselves so they could be up as DSiware, not just as piracy.

Why don't you take it a step further and ask if you can just patch SNES or NES roms to run on a DS? Before you mention "NesDS", "Snezziboy", "SNESds", and "SNEmulDS", those are not patching tools. They patch nothing. If you refer to an emulator as patching, I'll have to give you a medal for stupidity.
