Wow, the PSOne LED mod SUCKS.

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

good news everyone!!!....while putting my GCp back together, I did a bit of rewiring to make it more organized and I took out the resistors that go to the LEDs, so I fried them :D!!!....why is this good? 'cause now I have to replace them, which means I have an excuse to work on a new backlight mod :D.....I've already started, but I still need to get some LEDs :-\.....perhaps there'll be some at CMU, where I'm taking my course on electronics/computer engineering :D

Edit: btw, inputting 7.5V into LEDs rated at 3.6V makes them glow a nice blue color before they burn out :P...
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

specifically, I'm gonna be changing how the light diffuses.....if that doesn't work, then I was also thinking of something like what *o* said :)...

I would try to get some thin plexiglass and sand it down then stick it in between the lcd back and the lcd. If that doesn't help that much, you could possibly find some mirror film to stick on the back of the plexiglass.

You probably burnt out the phosphor in the led and just saw the unadulterated blue led light.

Here is a shop that has really really good prices on their LEDs ($.45 per LED, $2.00 shipping to anywhere in the world). They also sell resistors/wire.

Hey, I was looking around for 3mm white LED's and found these on an automotive site... I was thinking of doing the LED mod for my PS2p, (using segasonic's guide) the site says that they are 7000mcd's and thought they might be good for the crappy light issue...
Why make a portable? Because I want to be able to game cordless.

and here's my PS2p !!

If you could somehow find a way to use bigger LEDs, you would love these, they're 11,000 millicandela: 441-1009-ND (100 = 100 watt light bulb)

I can't remember where, but I say some 14,000MCD 3mm LEDs about a month ago. I think it was a sight that somebody had linked to somewhere. Might have been a link on the ETO forums. Every so often, BHK gets some extremely bright LEDs.

BTW usbcd, 100W LEDs would suck at 3V, because they would draw over 33A.

No no no, I mean that 100 of those LEDs would equal one 100 watt lightbulb. Each would be equivelant to 1 incandescent watt, or 11 candela (because the common 100W lightbulb is rated at 1,100 lumens) but would take much less power because 98% of the energy an incandescent lightbulb gives off is heat, the other 2% is light. If only they were smaller, they would make the LED mod pwn the world, but alas they are about 3 times the diameter they need to be.

Edit: This looks promising even though you said you saw 14 candela ones. (Plus, you can bulk order them, 10 for less money here.) These look great, but they are more expensive for only 2 more candela.

Only problem with really bright LEDs, is that the usually only have a 15 degree viewing angle.
