"mkz"? If you meant 3.2Mhz, you're not running slower than a 4004. ^^* You probably meant GHz...

You may want to try asking him about a dual boot system. Everyone is happy. Some distros set it up automatically (of course, you can change it) and even save what you have. Of course, you may wanna back up just in case.

The most popular is Linux, which has many variations. (technically called distributions, or distros) My favorite distro is SuSE.

It's a different OS that's more stable than windows. It has heavy use of command prompt, although in certain distros it's almost reduced to no command prompts needed.

You don't need to know any computer languages, the command prompt is just like using dos in windows. It's fairly easy to use, and even easier if you're comfortable with dos, Dual booting is having more than one OS on a computer at a time, so you can have both linux and windows :) The different distros are like the differences between windows versions to put it simply.

a menu that lets you choose your operating system, if you have dual boot. If you don't (you probably will, it tends to assume you want it when installing Linux) have dual boot, it will take you to the one OS you installed.

Pros:
fun to play with
configurable
free
fast
stable
open source (meaning anyone with the ability can program for it, making it updated often and well-built)

Cons:
hard to install some programs
your monitor basically needs to support 1024x768, more if possible. Everything is kinda big, though that can be changed
I don't care for the fonts
Windows Applications don't run without quite a bit of work (even then, nothing too complex)

I'd say it's worth a shot, especially at its price
