Super Mario RPG, love it! One of the only RPGs I ever cared enough about to beat... I think the only other one was Chrono Trigger. And Paper Mario, technically.

We have pretty much the same experience with RPGs, although you can add some of the pokemon games under my belt as well.

I played and beat... I think it was Red. The only Pokemon games I have are Red, Blue and Yellow, which was back when me and my brother actually cared about Pokemon... and watched it...
