Do you have something against the 150-pxl limit? This is twice now, I hate it when the side bar is widened for no reason.MIRAGE wrote:tell bush and get this guy fired from whatever job he has, not that it would help, lol penny arcade

Not quite. Sure, you can't shout slander (which thompson seems to do quite often), but you can offend anyone you like. If you couldn't then the kkk and women's rights groups would be long gonevb_master wrote:"freedom of speech" is you can say anything as long as you don'toffend anyone.
and yes, I'm kidding about the women's rights stuff

Ah, a memory. I accidntially dissed my science teacher in the seventh grade, WHILE she was right at the door, I couldn't see her. She grew RED HOT. And I had a mock trial. First amendment and our Law teacher.................in favor of her.
Why, because I still dissed her.

As for Thompson, he's an egotistical jerk. He's not figured out that just because you have a law degree and are part of the top 5% of the income population of the U.S. doesnt mean people are going to listen to you. Proof of that is in that, that orginization dismissed him.
I dont think he'll made much an impact as if he were to make one it would have happened by now.

Long story short...if he has a problem with video game violence, yell at the parents, not the gaming company. That would be a smarter/ethical thing to do.
We just need to get some of the sand out of his vagina and it'll all be good!

Yeah but considering that would be attacking the parents's choice in how they raise their kids, it would upset them. But that view is the popular view from the general public. I say blame the parents, if they made proper desisions for there kids.xriverfalconx wrote:Long story short...if he has a problem with video game violence, yell at the parents, not the gaming company. I'm not saying parents should be made to adhire to the rigid standard. I'm just saying that they would be a much more accepted scape-goat then blaming the companies.
I also think just for that little escapade of deniing to give out to that charity after someone made that mod, he should be be DDOS and basicly seen by the rest of the public as what he is a "hypicrit".

The thing though is that I have seen a lot of parents that don't discipline there kids at all and let them run around making bad decisions. They get into trouble with the law, the police don't do much, and the parents look the other way. It's ridiculous!
Not all parents however are bad like that! There are some as well that they try to teach their kids good values but the child is so stubborn and a pain in the ass that they do what they want.
Everything begins at home, and that, imo, is where he should look first before accusing others. Outside of the house, he should look into the companies that sell these games. Here is the issue i have with SOME locations regarding gaming stores. I've seen a few Gamestop's, EBGames, Software Inc., etc. sell these M rated games to anyone and not give a flying fu** about it. ANd there are some locations that DO care and will NOT sell it. The kids just go from store to store til they find one. He should crack down on those locations. Lastly, rental locations! These rental stores usually just rent the games out w/o a care of the rating unless it's a rated r film. I used to work in Blockbuster, and one thing for sure, if I was around and someone tried renting it, I stop them immediatly, made them put it back on the shelf and get there parents. Then, I warned the parents BEFORE they rented it out. 9 out of 10 times, the parents were thrilled i did this and one thing it did was land me great promotions because they wrote to the headquarters of my district telling them what i did.
There are many other areas he can LOOK into before making assumptions about what the issue is but he chooses to go his own way by abusing the legal system by making false accusations about the gaming industry, throwing out threats by abusing his lawyer status, and acting like a 2 year old so to speak. This is why our world has issues...a lot of people don't stop to think before they speak.
I'm not saying he should go and tell parents how to raise children, but if he wants to do what he deems as the "RIGHT" thing, he should try reaching out to families and inform them to be more active in there childs life and be aware of what they do. That would be a smart thing for him and possibly the only way he could ever get his status as a good person back.
But that's just me thinking here...who knows what he wants to do!

This is nothing new. Just ask Night Trap, or Mortal Kombat about it--the methods are new, and you're falling right into them.
Blame the news media who will post anything somebody says if it's far enough from mainstream these days. They have dozens of these little 'pets' that they throw up on slow news days. People who are so passionate about an issue that they come off as absolutely insane. (I'm sure you can name half a dozen) These may be valid issues, but the media doesn't care, they have their 'crazy' to parade around. people like jack thompson are just being used. The down side is that it can give off the idea that a dozen crazies are a large movement.
Also blame your stupid selves for wearing a T-shirts advertising his cause.
Naturally he will sue since somebody is making money off of his name. Since he's made himself into a public figure, he won't likely win, but if he can outspend his defendant until they're bankrupt he will. Either way, ignore him and he will vanish. If he get's somebody to introduce a bill, write your senator. (but I doubt it will ever come to that.)
and if worst comes to worst, I've always planned to buy an independant island country--we could go half-zies. They're not as expensive as you'd think.
