Yeah I'm going with solid black. Sounds like a really cool idea but I'm not a fan of paining the buttons since they might wear away. And painters tape isn't too forgiving since the paint can easily soak underneath it. The best option is to go with solid black.

Alright, I need your guys' input on this. I can either put the power for the screen and audio amp into the same switch so they can be turned off at the same time. (for home docking mode) Or the audio amp can be always on.
The only reason for it being always on would be so when your in homemode and playing on a big screen you can still use headphones. If you don't want sound you can just turn it all the way down.
So what do you guys think? (if someone made you a portable which would you prefer?)

Yes but having a cord hanging from your ears all the way to the tv would be annoying. But I'm just going to wire it so it turns off with the screen.

when will you want to play on a big tv with headphones, though? Headphones are more like for outside play

I was thinking like being able to play on tv without disturbing other people. Like playing at night or something. Just a thought though.

Might as well just turn down the volume. I guess it can't hurt leaving it in

Yeah but it can be annoying to have to turn it down. Plus it will always be drawing power. Even though it's probably only 70mA, that's still almost as much as the screen.

Re: 64 BOY wip *UPDATE 02/02/10*
Guess what my screen finally came. The good news, i can see everything perfectly with the new contrast. Bad news is that at 6 bolts it's a white screen but at 7.4 it's fine, so I'm only hoping it will stay on down to 6.8 volts. Also it draws at least 200mA. (at 12v it draws 171mA so probably less than 300mAh) But the really bad news is that there appears to be an issue with the screen it self. The screen scrolls, and sometimes it's terrible quality but that's probably from the scrolling.
6v white

Good quality scrolling, it looks bad just because the camera can't keep up.

Bad quality scrolling, this happens at random as far as I can tell, I've tried letting it discharge full and switching it back on immediately but it's still random.

I'm guessing the quality and scrolling are caused by the same quality. This would be a pretty good screen if it weren't for the scrolling. It's probably some kind of interference.
Here's the back

And the front, this side touches the back of the screen.

I found a small dent in the ribbon cable but it doesn't seem too major, although I've been playing with the cable and it's very sensitive, but the best I can get out of it is the first result with the screen scrolling.
Any suggestions?
You may be wondering why I'm doing this, reason being that the contrast is awesome, like night and day compared to my old screen.

Re: 64 BOY wip *UPDATE 02/28/10*
Well I've got a nice update for you guys. I did an overall power draw on the system. I haven't done the expansion pak relocation or cartridge relocation yet since it doesn't affect the power ratings. I haven't fixed the lowled yet, it works with my variable power supply, just not on the n64. I'll just rewire that. If I do end up replacing the ram chips with expansion pak chips (which I won't do without a heat gun) it will save about 200mAh of battery life, that way I can play while charging, otherwise I'll need a 1.5 amp smart charger, I only have a 1.2 because for some reason battery space doesn't have it on there site anymore. Anyway here's the video.
Dang youtube made it hard to read the multimeters.
By the way I'm going to use the original screen because I've figured out an amplifier for the composite line. Turns out the new one is just fine, just doesn't like to work with n64s

Ohhhhhhhh...so you're NOT going to put a screen on the 64Boy? I thought that would've been awesome - a N64p the size of a Gameboy. Oh well, that's still amazing to get a 64 that small!

Where in the world did you pull that assumption out of. I said I'm using the first screen I got, not the new one I got last week, how did you think I said I'm not going to use a screen?popfan97 wrote:Ohhhhhhhh...so you're NOT going to put a screen on the 64Boy? Aw, sorry. I saw that the case in that video didn't have a place for the screen. Sorry for me being a dumb***. It wouldn't be the first time...

Can't wait for the end result!
What's there to say? I haven't made anything special!
